Dentist work tomorrow need advice

Hello all ,

I wrote on here before of my dentist appointment and what I should do about pain.  Now the day has come.  I have to go tomorrow and get a bunch of stuff done to my teeth and am afraid of the pain.  I am on oxycontin  as well as breakthrough oxycodone.  Should I A)  call my PM doc today to tell him I am going to the dentist tomorrow and what I should do in the event I need pain meds or, B) wait till tomorrow see the dentist and ask him what I should do ?  I may not even need anything extra for pain but I am sure with the stuff i am having done I am gonna be hurting.  I quess the main thing is I am going to let the dentist know I am in pain management and what I am on and I will let my PM doc know of anything at all given to me by the dentist.  I will not fill anything unless my PM guy says its ok.  Also, if a pain med is prescribed by someone other than your PM doc for another condition with both of their approval will it be ok with the pharmacist and insurance?  I am very uneducated on this whole thing as I have never had anything done since in PM that may require more pain meds.  Also , maybe my PM doc will just prescribe more meds to cover the pain from the dentist or is that even legal for one doc to prescribe something for a condition that another doc is treating.  As you can see I am confused and am probably confusing all of you.  I just hate dental work and it usually has me in agony.  Any help would be greatly appreciated .   THanks and wish me luck for tomorrow morning.

I bumped up your older thread where people gave you lots of good advice. Beyond what was said there, I don't think there's anything I can add.

Good luck tomorrow. Just be honest with your doctors and try to relax.

I agree with PALady (as I usually do, she has good instincts and experience). Your PM doc would probably not change your dosages for dental work. If he increased the dosages you are on now you would run short by the end of month. He would have to write another Rx that your insurance would most likely reject (too early to fill).

Just tell the denstist that you have concerns. Let him know what you are taking and why. Let him decide what to give you for his procedure. They can usually cover the pain of most dental work with injections at the site and/or gas (nitrous oxide). Note that the gas option may not be available to alll patients based on specifics of each case. Anyway, try to stay calm, they will make you comfortable. Good luck.

I think your current pain meds will cover any additional pain from dental work as well. Depending on what your dentist is going to do (I suppose you already have a toothache or yuo wouldn't see a dentist), there is a good chance your dental problems will be way better in a couple of days. Even if these days should bring you slightly more pain, you'll be better off in the end.

You might want to stick to soup for a couple of days though. Always worked well for me.

Wanted to step in and says good luck with your dental work, wear comfortable clothes, if the pain is really bad after the
dental visit then I would suggests you call your PM doctor, but wait and see for now, cause it might not be as bad as your thinking.
Will keep you in my thoughts..

Im new here. Humm.. wonder why i say that each time...
In any case, may i ask what you are having done?
I too am having major dental work done soon. I made copies of the important documents (oral sugeon + regular dentist) made sure my spine specialist had all numbers and documents he needed to speak freely with other two and vice versa. I dont think it took them all that long to communicate and come up with a surgical plan. It is my understanding that they have considered each step of the process before and after. I can leave just a quick message he will get back with me right away. (Even really silly questions no matter how funny they were) Though I have a funny feeling my post is too late, I do hope for the best for you. And a beautiful smile! now that it is hopefully, all over.
