What Do The Geniuses Expect Those Who Need Percocet Or Vicodin To Do??

Ok, I understand that some people abuse vicodin/percocet and also take plain tylenol along with it. I realize that in many cases an overdose of Acetaminophen may result and cause major health problems, even death. But taking away Percocet & Vicodin from the numerous people who take the medicines responsibly, as prescribed by their physicians is irresponsible. How about better educating people about the dangers of acetaminophen over use? How about mandatory warnings for all who fill prescriptions for these pain drugs, not to take Tylenol in addition to Percocet & Vicodin? But to take away medicines that allow many people to have some quality of life? That's horrible.

Yes this whole situation is horrible, I've tried tramadol, ultram, lyrica, celebrex and ms coitin and the only
medicine to help me and that I don't have a reaction to is Vicodin HP , I honestly don't like
what the FDA is doing..there have been other threads on this too..This ruling will hurt us that
take these medicines responsibly...

My doctor (who I saw yesterday) said there is no need to worry (I take Percocet 10mg, 10 pills a day, plus I am on the Fentanyl patch as well) he said that first of all its not going to affect those of us that have long term use of these products, it will reflect on new individuals and ER drug seekers. And the people who are abusing the drugs will do so no matter what they have in them or if it will kill them because they are addicts and it just doesn't matter to them. Any of us who have been taking these meds for a long time have some type of adiction going on. I would not worry about it, just take it day by day, cause we all have enough to worry about!

I was reading about the Acetomenophen again on another pain forum. From what I read they are not going to stop making Vicodin and Percocet. So, as long as that is true then no worries. They are talking of producing a medication without the Acetomenphen in it. They are really concerned about ways to make the public aware of the potential liver problems and do not know how to go about it. It figures!!!

Oh believe me, I am fully aware of the addiction process, I have been taking some type of narcotic pain medication for 12 years now. When the did my first surgerie (spinal fusion) they put me on the percocet and Oxycontin. I was taking 10-12 pills a day of Percocets and 3 Oxycontin a day, when one day I got fed up with it all and three the Oxycontin away, and very shortly thereafter I began going through withdrawels symptoms, I have never felt so sick in my life. I thought, even though I had only been taking the Oxycontin for three months that I was an addict and belonged in a treatment center which is where I went. When I went in they asked me what kind of "drug" was my choice when I explained to them how I was taking prescribed medication, they asked me how and when I told them they told me to sit in my room until I was ready to tell them the truth, which I was. They still did not believe me, but I stayed for four days and listened to people talking about seeling their child for a hit of herion, one guy was spending 80 dollars a pill for Oxycontin . It was a very scary place. When on the fourth day I asked to call my husband and they told me no that I wasn't allowed to talk to him and I told them either I do or I leave so I left, they were not there to help me, they were there to tell me that I didn't know what I needed, several times they made remarks about my education, which they knew nothing about and so on, they would not let me talk to my husband because they said he is providing me the drugs, which was ludicris, at the time he was a 17 year veteran police office with an impecable record and he went with me when I checked in. They paint a picture of what an addict is, its not clear though because I thought I belonged there, but what I really needed was a doctor who knew his but from a hole in the ground. OKay my fingers hurt from typing,lol. Thanks for the welcome I appreciate it greatly, and Happy Fourth to you all.

No unfortunately my doctor at the time did not inform me of that, his response was and I quote "It sounds like you need to go to a treatment Facility" which is what I did, you know most of us, I would presume, didn't have a previous problem with any drugs, I was a kid who gew up without that, no alchohol either, it just wasn't what I wanted, I mean I would go out on occasion and have a beer with friends but that was it. So when my doctor told me that, I called around and went. There were 23 people in there when I went, 20 of them were court ordered and the other 3 we transferred from a hospital and then there was me,the only one to sign myself in, I learned alot from the experience and also learned it was not where I belonged. I of course no longer associate with that physician, I fully aware of any and all narcotice information I know what I need to get off of them and how to do it, we all learn from our mistakes, my hope now is that they will get my pain pump where it needs to be and then I can discontinue narcotic pain meds forever, my pump does not have narcotics in it. Just wanted to make a quick comment. I take a drug called supedule which is really oxycodone. They have just eliminated any additive such as tylenol or aspirin..I have also seen it called Oxy IR. They make it in 5, 10, and 20mg doses. I live in Canada so I'm not sure if they have the same thing in the US but, it's worth looking into if your looking for an alternative to percocet.
