AmI allowed to have 1-2 alcoholic beverages?

Merrygirl, Don't we all want to be normal. Whatever that is. You are probably going to get different responses. I would encourage you to check the warnings on the meds you are taking. That would be more important to me than what the doctor would or wouldn't say. From my past experience as a lawenforcement officer and now working with addicts, one or even two drinks will not likely show up on Tuesday. Your body will process the alcohol before then. Again, it would depend on the meds you are on.  

I have never had a pain contract, so that one I can't comment on, however, I was an Office Manager for many years for a trucking company and alcohol generally leaves the body within 24 hours of consuming it unless it is done on a more general basis (we drug and alcohol tested alot, at random). As far as contracts are concerned, the contract has to state what is what is not allowed to be done in order for you to adhere to its policies. A long time ago I had a Pain Management doctor who had me on medication and I was having a party and I wanted to also share in a drink my friends, I had not taken my medication that evening but wanted to make sure I wouls not have any terrible reactions so I called my doctor and had the answering service page him and he called me at home, his advice was that if I was at home and wanted to have a drink or two I would be fine, but he did stress not to mix the two, but that was several years ago and my doctor, don't know if this was any help to you at all but if nothing else try to enjoy your friends and have a great night. I think fatherjohn's advice about it depends on what meds. you're on - and I mean all of them - whether or not alcohol is safe for you. Safety is really the issue. Like someone said, you don't want to go into a coma! And it can happen I think easier than many of us suspect. And also if you decide to, remember that one drink will affect your judgment, so if you're partying do you know that you can have just one and stop? Just a thought. And I wouldn't take any bedtime meds with alcohol in your system.

But here's an alternate suggestion. We all understand wanting to feel normal - or find our "new normal" as we rarely can go back to what we were. How about trying a virgin pina colada? Lots of people who no longer want to drink alcohol, but who want to participate in fun drinks and such do this. I'm not sure what the recipe would be, but maybe it's just making it without alcohol. With those sweet drinks a lot of it is in the flavoring anyway. There may even be instructions on the pina colada mix (if you're using a mix) as to how to make it without alcohol. This way you could know you could enjoy parties in the future, and have an option. Lots of bars even serve specialty drinks this way.

My Physical therapist said a drink once or twice a year would be acceptable, it's just not going over board, so
one drink would've been okay...I only drink one three occassions a year and usually just 1/2 glass or less, and those
occassions would be 1. My Anniversary, 12 July, My Birthday in Novemeber and on News Year"s Eve....
I don't like the taste of beer so I usually order up a strawberry darquiry (sp), but red wine is supposed to be
beneficial for women.....

Your right of course PALady a regular PT is not, but my PT is a doctor..
i'd never take offense at your posts, your to nice..If I'd been smart I would've said
my doctor whom happens to be my PT said, so and so, but I'm tired today..
and I very very rarly drink even on these occassions I just don't like the taste of it and the
idea of no alcohol drinks was interesting wasn't it...
