Anyone here have Chronic/Acute Pancreatitis??

Hello all,

 I was recently diagnosed with Chronic Pancreatitis (do not drink)....they said it was probably hereditary (grandmother had it)? Anyway, I was wondering if there was anyone here that suffers with this? I was diagnosed a month ago....before this I had constant abdomial pain!! Especially after eating anything. I also suffer from GERD (which I take Nexium for rolleyes ).  Anyway, I was prescribed enzymes to help with the pain and they have been good for me. I take 2 before each meal I eat but I still have the abdominal pain daily (just not as bad). Is there anyone who has gotten rid of the abdominal pain all together out there?? Thanks for any replies. Hello All....just wanted to check back and see if anyone here suffers from this sucky disease besides me rolleyes confused

I can't really help you, but I can sympathize. A few years ago I had a bout of it that stuck me in the hospital for a week and a half. Not something I ever want to go through again.

Even after I was allowed solid foods again I had to stick to an ultra low fat diet for a few weeks to avoid a possible flair up.

My father suffered from Chronic Pancreatitis. He developed it in his late 50's. He doctor thought is wasf tylenol over use in combination with moderate drinking.He did suffer greatly from abdominal pain. I know his doctor had him change his diet to a low fat/no fat diet. I am not sure if that helped. He did end up with stents in the vial duct which helped to relieve the pain.

I am so sorry that you have received this diagnosis. I do know from my father's experience it is associated with pain, so I would make sure that you find a good Pain Management Specialist to help you. Regular physicians usually are not that experienced in chronic pain management and there is no reason you should suffer unnecessarily.

I have a type of chronic pancreatitis - I have lived with this for about 10 years. Mine is a congenital type that became symptomatic after an acute attack as a result of surgery.

If you are looking to exchange ideas and advice I am willing to share what I can for what it is worth.

HI MY NAME IS ADRIENNE AND IM 27 YRS OLD I HAVE PACREATITIS AND AM SCARED TO DEATH THAT IM GOING TO DIE. I FEEL ALONE AT MY AGE AND DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO. I WAS RECENTLY HOSPITALIZED FOR IT THEY DID SO MANY TESTS AND CANT FIND OUT WHATS WRONG WITH ME AND WHATS CAUSING THIS I HAD MY GALL BLADDER REMOVED ALREADY AND THEY DON'T SEE ANY STONES! WILL THIS TURN INTO CANCER? WILL I DIE YOUNG FROM THIS? IM SO darn SCARED I DIDNT WANT TO HEAR ANYMORE SO I SIGNED MYSELF OUT OF THE HOSPITAL CAUSE IM SCARED TO KNOW ANY MORE I FEEL LIKE IM BETTER AT THE MOMENT BUT SCARED FOR THE FUTURE. I KNOW I SHHOULD HAVE STAYED IN THE HOSPITAL BUT IM SO darn SCARED. I DON'T EVEN DRINK ALCOHOL. MY LIVER ENZYMES WERE ELEVATED A LITTLE TO IS THERE ANY ONE OUT THERE AS YOUNG AS ME GOING THROUGH THIS AND IS THERE HELP WILL THE PAIN EVER STOP COMMING BACK WITH TREATMENT. IM ALSO A SMOKER HOW OR  DOES THIS AFFECT MY  PROBLEMS. AM I GONNA DIE cry

Adrienne1234, how long were you in the hospital? It can take a a couple of weeks or more for an episode of pancreatitis to run its course and there is little they really can do for it besides try to control the pain and give you fluids through an IV. Eating or drinking anything can and often will prolong the attack and make it worse.

Sometimes pancreatitis is triggered by block ducts, sometimes it is set off by consuming too much alcohol, or even eating too much fatty foods, and sometimes there is no easily identifiable cause. Smoking is not going to help your recovery as you are adding "junk" into your system causing it to use some of its resources to remove that crap. How it may relate to a possible trigger I don't know though, and I am not going to give you any lecture about stopping. At 27 you know all the reasons not to smoke.

In my opinion you really should have yourself readmitted to the hospital for treatment.

BTW: When I had my bout with it I was in my mid 30's and I underwent a lot of tests too and in the end they could not figure out what triggered mine. I spent about a week and a half in the hospital before I was well enough to be discharged and for all but the last 24 hours I was kept on IV fluids and pain meds. All in all I was sick with it for a good 2 weeks though. The first few days I thought I just had a bad case of the flu or maybe food poisoning.
