Yea seems like if your taking 3 a day and every 6 hours, then its a smaller dosage narcotic like 5mg or maybe a 7.5mg vicodin or percocet. But that doesnt seem like that much actually. And most doctors actually tell their patients to take the medication BEFORE the pain sets in to much, its much easier to get control of your pain before then to wait for it to be horrible and try to get it under control then. I think thats universal to every doctors thinking. as long as you dont run out of your medication, as long as you dont take the more then 3 that your doctor says you can take a day, and he wants it to last a month then that should be 90 pills.
You know if you need more then 3 one day you can always call your doctor and say today is worse then usual may I take more and they will usually work with you and let you know how much more they'll allow and for how many days before you either have to call them back go in for an appointment or go back to the original number you were taking prior to calling him.
Also I noticed you said you didnt want to be 'under the influence', I assume that means you dont want to feel a little tipsy or anything, well if you DO feel this way then thats when you need to tell your doctor because the dosage is probably to strong for you if your have a euphoric effect. You shouldnt have trouble getting a refill at all if you dont go over what your doctor allows, remember you can always call and ask if you need more for a few days if you think, they'll have no problem, but you need to ask ahead of time. Also, and this is a major thing that everyone on this site needs to learn or realize, one or the other. Everyone is consumed and pre-occupied with getting 'addicted' that they dont get adequite pain releif and belief it or not this is very common now-a-days, mostly because of the fear-mongering out their, literally people trying to scare others, some people do this in-advertantly but either way, theres no need in this, people need to learn on their own, experience on their own, what others feel and think about a medication doesnt have bearing on another persons feeling or acceptance or a medication nor does it affect how well it works for someone. If this were the case not a single mediation would be approved by the FDA, becuase at least one person hates every medication on the market, even aspirin and tylenol. people have a problem with everything, so you need to go through this on your own, and your own feelings not others. AND THIS IS WHAT I WOULD WANT YOU TO LEARN OUT OF THIS ENTIRE POST, OUT OF WHAT EVERY SINGLE PERSON HAS WRITTEN, I HAVE NOTICED THAT NOT A SINGLE PERSON HAS MENTIONED THAT THEIR ARE NUMEROUS STUDIES INDICATING THAT PEOPLE THAT ARE ACTUALLY SEEING A PAIN MANAGEMENT DOCTOR OR CLINIC OR ANYONE TAKING NARCOTIC PAIN MEDICATION PERIOD ARE VERY UNLIKELY TO BECOME ADDICTED AND BECOME ADDICTS IF THEY ARE IN REAL, LITERAL PAIN. ITS PEOPLE THAT ARENT IN PAIN, OR ARE FAKING THAT GET ADDICTED, BECAUSE IT HAS TO DO WITH BRAIN CHEMISTRY WHEN IN PAIN, WHEN YOUR NOT IN PAIN THE MEDICATION WORKS ON YOU DIFFERENT, PARTICULAR YOUR BRAIN CELLS. ALSO WHAT MAYBE HAPPEN BUT DOESNT HAVE TO IS PEOPLE IN PAIN MAY BECOME DEPENDENT ON A MEDICATION, THIS DOES NOT MEAN YOUR ADDICTED AT ALL, IT MEANS THAT THE MEDICATION WORKS FOR YOU, AND YOU'VE FOUND THAT IT HAS BASED ON EXPERIENCE AND THAT YOU NEED THIS MEDICATION OR SOMETHING SIMILAR TO HAVE A LIFE REMOTELY CLOSE AS POSSIBLE TO YOUR LIFE PRIOR TO PAIN. WHICH IF YOU DDINT KNOW IS THE GOAL OF PAIN MANAGEMENT, NOT TO TAKE YOUR PAIN AWAY, BUT TO GET YOU AS CLOSE TO YOUR LIFE PRIOR TO PAIN ON AS LITTLE MEDICATION AS POSSIBLE. THERES NOTHING WRONG WITH BEING DEPENDANT, PEOPLE ARE DEPENDENT ON HEART MEDICATION AND DIABETIC MEDICATION ALSO, THAT DOESNT MEAN THEIR ADDICTS....THIS WORD ADDICT IS ONLY ASSOCIATED BECAUSE OF BAD PUBLICITY OF PAIN MEDICATIONS, WHICH IS FROM PEOPLE TAKING THEM INCORRECTLY. THE BOTTOM LINE IS THERES NOTHING WRONG WITH TAKING NARCOTIC PAIN MEDICATION, YOU NEED IT, YOU CANT HELP IT, YOU DIDNT ASK FOR THIS PAIN, AND EVERYONE OF US WOULD STOP TAKING EVERYTHING WE HAVE IF WE COULD GET RID OF THE ILLNESS WE WERE TREATING, THERES NOT A SINGLE PERSON THAT WOULD KEEP THEIR PAIN OR ILLNESS/DISEASE IN -LOU OF KEEPING OUT PAIN MEDICATION. sorry guys, I just realized I was in caps, just wanted people to really pay attention to that section and just trust yourself, dont rely o others OPINION on a medication or entire class of medication as fact...odds are thats all it is , opinion, nothing remotetly resembling fact.
So take the medication you need, dont be ashamed, and dont be afraid. This is something we all need, and Im not ashamed that Ive found a medication that gets me out of the house again, gets me doing chores around the house and yard again, even got me enrolled in college courses again, why should I be ashamed or not like it? Im proud and glad Ive found this combination of medications that works for me, notice I said works for me, goes back agian to listening to what OTHERS have to say about narcotics, people dont like them or are scared, they talk bad about them, if i would have listend, Id still be sitting inside, wilting away(lol), not getting things done, still out of school, and just be a body, and person not a contributing member of society.
Dont be afraid to take the pain away, thats what the doctor gave you the medication for, he didnt meant to scare you, but truely many studies from around the world, at some of the best and most prestigous universities and hospitals in the world have concluded that in all honestly the largest majority of people that go to some form of doctor for pain and get a narcotic pain medication...whether using it alone or in combination with another treatment, do not become addicted and in fact just continue taking their medication per doctors instructions. (if I remember correctly it was something around or even a little over 90%, dont hold me to this but I think it was very high very high up there, 9 out of 10 people is not bad.
