    Hello everyone. It is me shell. Straydog in answer to your question yes i am on meds finally. They put me on methotrexate and also relafin for inflamation. They told me that it would be at least 3 months before the methotrexate would really help me. And i have to get more blood work done and some x-rays done of my back. Cause i have really bad back pain at times. My rehmy wants to make sure that i don't have something going on with my back. I had had some x-rays done a couple of yrs ago when i had pnemonia and they said that i had scoliosis. Never had it as a kid though but the rehmy looked at my back at last appointment and said i may have a mild form of it. But wants some x-rays just to be sure. I am having a good response to the medicine that the dermotologist wanted me to use. It is a spray on treatment called Clobex plus a cream called Vectical. Both meds are expensive. But they are working. I have severe psoriasis on my knees and elbows and within one week of using them both it almost made those spots disappear. I just about can't believe how they look. I actually have soft elbows and knees. I really have to look at the bright side of things. Even though i hurt. thanks again, shell

Shell yes the Vectical is over $600 a tube, very expensive. I am so glad you are on some meds now for the pa. I fell and broke my arm so my posts are short. Hugs,

Straydog: I am very sorry to here about your arm. I am on insurance through my husband so my meds are not that bad. But it still is expensive with insurance. It is about $45 just for the cream. Honestly i would rather take a pill for my psoriasis instead of putting on some cream. I told this to my derm doctor but he just ignored me. Anyway sorry about your arm and i hope you get to feeling better soon. Shell

shell i agree, the ointments are so greasy, yuck. Still have not heard if he is putting me on that one medication. They will not give it to women still able to have children because it causes severe birth defects.

    Straydog how is your arm feeing. I know it is have been a long time since i have posted so your arm is probably all better by now. But i have been i quite a bit of pain lately. And i am having alot of trouble with my big toe. It is so sore on the inside by my second toe. I kind of feels swollen but no sausage toe. My hands have been hurting too. So it makes it hard to type. Sometimes the Relafen seems to help and at times it doesn't. Not sure what to do about that. My doctor that is treating me for PA is over 100 miles away just one way. I don't have to worry about getting pregnant i have had my tubes tyed, cut and burned for over 10 years now. Biggest mistake of my life. But at the time i thought it was the thing to do. Now i regret it.

I finally got put in a caste yesterday and its much better than how it was all wrapped at the hospital thru ER. If all goes well the caste will be taken off in one month.

I am sorry to hear you are not feeling so good. I sure hope your meds will kick in We have been having rain and this has really jacked with my body, hope things level out. I got stressed over this arm business and am now in the middle of an outbreak. I an beginning to wonder if it will ever stop.

  I have a question for anyone that can answer it. (I am going to rheumy doc on the 11th) My question is how safe is it to take Methotrexate for PA when one of the side effects could be seizures. I have had seizures since i was 15 and i am now 34. For the past couple of weeks at least once a week i have felt as if i could go into one. My eyes rolled back and i felt very dizzy. For me those are signs that i could have a seizure. So i take some of my seizure meds and i feel better. But i don't want to take this Methotrexate if it with cause me to have one. And also i read that Methotrexate can give you flu like symptoms but how do you know if you are sick from meds or just sick in general. There has been alot of sickness floating around. H1N1 scare and influenza A and also influenza B as well.  I have this awful cough that i cant get rid of other than that i am fine. No fever. Have had a few chills but don't know if that is from meds as well. Please help!!!! Thank you.

Hi Shells, sounds like you need to get a hold of the dr that takes care of the seizures and see whats going on. Maybe the Methotrexate is aggrevating that problem. I know its tough trying to figure what is causing what. But, I feel quite certain if you have some chills going on I doubt very seriously a medication is causing that, sounds like you may have something else going on. Was your rheumy aware of your history of seizures when he put you on the Methotrexate? There are many other drugs they can try you that perhaps will not bother the seizure situation.

My caste is coming off on the 17th and I will be so glad. I am still having major breakouts and I am beginning to feel my days of clear skin are over. I am so disgusted with the whole psoriasis scene. Its embarrassing to say the least when in public, my hands look like I have leprosy and they are totally nasty looking no to mention painful and the very same goes for the feet. I am now getting it on my face, where will it strike next??? I try to hide my hands when out as much as possible. Stress is getting me over this, I have started grinding and gritting my teeth, have a small piece of tooth that broke off the other day.

Please come back and post and let us know what your dr says.

I say keep up the search until u have answers. My mom was having what they thought were stomach problems. They kept giving her heart burn meds & telling her it was he esophagus. I wuz there 1 day & talked her in2 going to the er. She had an ultrasound & stress test too. The only way they found out was putting the camera up the thigh. She had 80% blockage in her main aretery. Is she would have waited for the heart attack it would have been massive (fatal) & she would have had mayb a year.

So if she hadn't gone to the er, who knows. Don't give up.

   Hey Straydog it is so good to hear that you will be getting your cast off. I really dont have a doc that specializes in seizues where i live just a family doc. But i am about to quit her. I haven't seen her since that last episode where she told me that i didn't have PA. And she didn't even tell me that i had heel spurs. She also put me on heartburn pills for my chest pain. She did say that the chest and back pain that i was having was NOT panic or aniexy attacks. I have not had any chest pains for about a little over a month now since i have been taking meds for PA. My husband wanted me to take the heartburn pills just so that i could tell my doc that i took them but still had chest pains. So i myself could rule out that it was not heartburn. Which i told her nurse that i didn't think that was what it was in the first place. But no one listens to me. She is a waste of my time and my money. But i am still trying to find someone else to replace her. It is not just me that sees her. My whole family that does. I will be sure and keep you posted after i see the rhuemy on this Wednesday. I have alot of questions that i want to ask her.

Shell, I kinda hoped in here, but from reading your reply, have you considered angina? I had a heat attack in 2002, and every once in a while I have chest pains, and the PCD said it was Angina. Sorry if it's spelled wrong :)

   Screaming Eagle: No one has even mentioned that to me. I was really scared when i first started to have my chest pains(which actually started years ago). But i only noticed them about every 6 months. Then i noticed them about every 3 months or so. Then they became more frequent. I was really scared because i have a big family history(on both mom and dad side) of heart problems. My dad's dad died from a heart attack when my dad was only 9yrs. old. My dad has had a heart attack as well and my dad's brother too. Plus on my moms side she has had one brother die from one and another brother has had some strokes. I have seen a heart specialist to rule out any heart problems already. But they said that everything looked fine. Some of the ER docs said that maybe it might be plurisy(sp). But my family doc didn't seem to think so. I have went on symptom checker and put in all of my symptoms and it always says heart attack or stroke. And other things as well. Thanks for the info i will be sure to do some research on it and maybe mention it to my rheumy doc on Wed.

  Screaming Eagle: I just looked up Angina and it really does look like i have had alot of those symptoms that were listed. I would have chest pains that would radiate to the middle of my back plus when i had them if i tried to take not only a normal breath but a deep breath the pain would get worse. Sometimes it would only last a few minutes but it has lasted over an hour. I have gone to bed with chest pains or gotten woke up from them. Sometimes they would be brought on by stress and other times i didn't have to be doing anything. One of the times that i went to the ER i had this really bad headache and my doc and the ER docs tried to tell me it was just a sinis infection. Well they did a CT Scan and found out that my sinises were clear as a bell and they couldn't tell me why my head was hurting so bad. But i usually have a really bad headache when i have chest pains. Which i don't usually have headaches any other time. Unless i am sick and at the time i was not. I am going to bring this up at the doctors appointment on the 11th. Thanks

Do you have any pain going down your arm or up into your jaw? Angina can radiate as well.

Well shells. there are many things that can triger the pain your getting, but I would mention angina to you PCD. I have it every once in a while, and take nitro for it. I too had plurisy as a childhood, into my early adult years, but havn't had an attack in several yrs. Also, do your symptom come on when your laying in a certian postion? I also have chest pain brought on when Im laying down at night with a pillow proped up under my head or neck, and I believe it is caused from a pinched nerve from my DDD in my neck. If I readjust my position, it goes away after a min or so. At any rate, you need to ask your PCD to recheck it again, and ask him lots of questions and suggest some possibiltys. This may trigger a light to go on in his head, and follow up with the right test. I won't say what I think, as it could be any number of things to cause it. Keep in touch, with us and let us know what you find out. Something is causing it.

  Well i went to the rhuemy doctor again on Wed. and she put me on a different pain and inflammatory medicine. Was on Relafin and now she put me on Celebrex. The other stuff only made me sleepy and didn't help at all with my pain that i was having. I looked online about this new medicine she put me on and it didn't look like it was very safe to take. Had alot of serious side effects. Now i know with all meds that there are certain risks but just how safe is it to be taken. Has anyone had any major problems while taking this medicine. Any input would be helpful. She also put me on Folic Acid cause she said that my blood work didn't look normal because of the Methotrexate that i take. I also asked her about my nails and the way that they looked and she said that there really wasn't anything that i could take to fix it. I would think that with how potent the Methotrexate is that maybe it should help but i guess that it won't. I could have sworn that she told me the last time that i was in to see her that the Methotrexate would help with my nails. but maybe i just heard her wrong. I guess i should be lucky that i am a girl and at least i can paint them to hide how gross they look. Sorry for you guys out there with this problem.
