Neck surgery

Yes, they finally got their crap together and I have an appointment on Aug. 20th.  It sure has been a long wait.  It has been hard getting someone to sit with my DH.  I have one or two I can count on.  But I am still having to do things that hurt me, just out of necessity.  I mean you can't get someone to do everything that has to be done unless they live with you.  We are on SS and can't afford much help.

But God will take care of us!

I am still waiting, impatiently,  for my appointment on the 20th for my second opinion.  I wake up every morning around 2 to 3 am.  I stay so tired and I am having to take my meds so early that makes me run out before the day is over.  I could not get a Dr. to write a new script for  the Oxycodone so I had to go back to the Ortho and ask him to.  I never noticed till I got it filled it was 2 per day instead od the usual 6 per day.  Can I supplement with the Hydrocodone or is that a no-no?  I am in so much pain.

Hi Carolyn, I have been down and now slowly working my way up. Please call your dr and and ask about the Hydrocodone with the other medication. He is the one that needs to address that. Be careful about taking more than what is prescribed, the drs can and will cut you off for doing that, thats a real no-no in their eyes. I see you are having a second opinion about surgery and its the 20th, thats great. Are you having surgery by the dr that told you if it was him he would not have the surgery? If so, I would think long and hard before allowing him or any other dr touch me with a scapel. Many times when people wait to long to have surgery, and then finally have it, they find themselves no better off or worse,. I am telling you this simply because its the truth. By no means am I saying this to scare you. Once you have surgery honey, you will have lifting restriction and not be able to left much with that neck. Please let us know what the 2nd opinion dr says.

To answer your question about help at home-no I have no help, its rough and I do the best I can it just depends on the day. Hugs,

I answered back last night with all the things that have happened since the 20th and it was long.  I accidentally hit the wrong button and erased everything!! Made me so mad.

 

Anyway, I kept the appt. on the 20th.  I really liked the 2nd Dr. He said I needed the surgery and he felt like he could help me.  He said it sounds like you are at the end of your rope.  He said the Dr. in Murfreesboro also indicated on his notes that I needed the surgery.  I feel good about this Dr.  He said he had done over 2000 of these surgeries with no deaths and no paralized patient.  He told me all about it and what to expect.  So I set up the surgery for Sept. 2nd. I go tomorrow for pre-admission bloodwork. My stepson has finally decided to help out with his Father.  He is going to take him to his house for a few weeks. His wife will take care of my DH during the day. Boy, are they in for a rude awakening!! 

Maybe they will appreciate me after this. My DH was in the hospital last Monday thru Friday for fluid build-up and difficulty breathing.  I stayed the whole time, day and night.  They would visit for a while and then leave.  I would never have made the woman who was taking care of my Father stay 24/7 at the hospital with him.  I would have relieved her some of that time. Oh well, their Father and I have been married for 15 years.  I am very good to him and he tells them so but that DS and his DD have always given me a hard time.  His other DS treats me right and always has.

 

I need prayers during this time for myself and my DH.  I will also pray for all of you.

Sorry I have not posted in a while.

I had my surgery on Sept.  2nd. I brought my DH home after 2 weeks. It was way too early. I have had a very hard time.

All the pain in my right shoulder and arm due to pinched nerves is gone. My neck is some better, altho I had 4 bad discs and they fixed 2 of them. Also the searing pain in the center of my back is still there so  it didn't help that.

My DH's health  has continually deteriorated and he is falling a lot.  It has been really hard on me stress wise. I have to call someone to pick him up, a neighbor usually or my DS.

My DH's DS and DD are accusing me of not taking good care of him and bickering all the time in front of him. They hardly ever came to see him until he got so bad. They think he may be dying now so they call more but never offer a hand to help us out.

Anyway, I am so busy I had not the time to post. I miss everyone and your encouragement.

I'm sorry to say this but at some point you may have to make a decision about your husband. If I remember right isn't he having syptoms of dementia or alzheimers. My mother passed away 5 yrs ago from alzheimers. We took care of her at home for 2 yrs but we finally had to take her to a nursing home when life for my father became nonexistent with taking care of her. It was a very difficult time but with some time she felt at home there and my father who visited her daily could go on with his life too. I feel for you having to watch the love of your life be consumed with this dreadful disease but there is nothing you can do to stop it. There are drugs such as Aricept that say they will slow the progression which this may be true, mom was using it but you can't stop it. Good Luck but I would suggest checking out a Geriatric Specialist for information and support. We did and she was very helpful.
