For those of you dealing with crohn's disease what pain managment regimen are you currently on?

Hey Want,

I don't take anything for Crohn's pain, per se, but do take things for pain related to the Crohn's:

Humira injection 1x/week for joint pain related to Crohn's

Prednisone 20mg/day for back pain/Crohn's inflammation

Fentanyl pain patch, 50mg every 72 hours for lower back pain

Also take a variety of anti-depressants, half of which I might not need to have if I handled stress better and/or wasn't dealing with Crohn's and back pain!

Do you believe that your lower back pain is related to your Crohn's disease?  I've been experiencing lower back pain at night mostly.  After about 4 hours in bed, my back,hips and abdomen hurt so bad that I have to get up out of bed.

My GI offered my vicodin which I cannot take, this was back in 2002. I ended up being ref to a pain mgt dr, due to low back pain, neck pain and both knees. I have a low history of CP. I now have a pain pump because I do not tolerate orals meds well. you do know you can get arthritis due to the CD. Most gi;s do not like to rx pain meds and neither does the PCP's. Ask for a ref to a pain mgt dr and see if you can get help.

Have Ulceraitive Colitis, IBS-D, GERD (sever) and take MS Contin 15mg ER and 10 mg Endocet for BTP--but let me tell ya, it's been a looooong road to my pain relief. Over 10 yrs DX (many yrs of illness before DX) started out years ago on Vicoden (worthless for the type of pain I was experiecing) and MD would give me very little. It wasn't until my OBGYN--yes OBGYN--found out I was taking up to 12 Tylenol a day for my pain that she felt bad and worried for my liver and referred me to a PM MD. I am now with a PCP MD who specializes in CP and he prescribes my pain meds not GI--It's been my experience that GI MD's are not that willing to treat/acknowledge GI pain, something I have never understood. It took YEARS before I found the right person and was taken seriously about my pain levels. One thing I did do was I was very consistent in my reporting, every time I was in severe pain I went to the MD so they could see what I was dealing with. I have now developed Fibro and joint pain, but still believe I would need the same level of pain meds otherwise.
