I decided to start a new thread before the other one gets too long. I saw the ortho and got the MRI results. The radiologist didn't bother to stage this avascular necrosis. That is one of the reasons for doing the MRI in the first place...... shakehead

Anyway, he just confirmed that it is there and that there is some kind of hole in /tear in the cartilage near the wrist joint as well, a bone bruise on the radius bone, and another bone is eroding... smhair cry confused   Not good news, in any aspect and I got a referral to a hand surgeon......and a brand new purple cast from my fingers to my elbow. He said that the bone with the necrosis hasn't collapsed as of yet, but it looks like it will soon, and there are bone fragments from the other bones that either chipped or something so I got this cast.

I can't imagine trying to cook this Thursday but I will, because I always do and I will let my kids write all over the cast....at least they will find it fun....

Well, Finger's Crossed that the hand surgeon will be able to help...
so sending you lots of hope with my soft hugz this time...
Let your kids help you cook on Thursday for Thanksgiving, it might be fun...

  Sandi....I wish you the very best, and hope the surgeon can help your condition. Please keep us posted...and by the way, ...you have done an excellant job in doing so, for all of us here at the CP forum. Keep your chin up, and ask for help from your family this Thursday. They should pitch right in for you! ............now Scramo Whamo! :)

I am sure it will do no good to tell you to take it really easy with that arm, especially with Turkey Day coming up! But it does make me feel better telling you that, because I do feel so helpless with trying to be of any help to you in your situation! ( Does that make any sense?) I do hope so! Anyway as I know, that you know, your arm does not sound good at all! So Please Please Do try and be careful with it! I really am sorry that this has happened to you! You definitely have enough on your platter and you did not need this to top it off! I do hope you have a Good week and an Outstanding Turkey Day!

Well, at least the cast is purple! Ok, seriously, it's not great news but maybe the cast will keep things from getting worse until you can see the hand surgeon. I am glad you're going to someone who knows hand and wrist bones. Wish I could send you to my guy; one of the few on my "good" list - and by that I mean good results!

As far as turkey day - it's a good time for the kids to learn! Just make sure they get the turkey cooked inside and everything else will work out. Play "Queen for a Day" with that purple cast! Do you have a crown?

I usually let the kids help make the stuffing and then stuff the bird early in the morning. Then we watch cartoons until the parade starts.....this year they may find themselves helping a lot more.
It is fun to have them help, they thankfully enjoy it.

I will definately be careful, not that I have many other options......
I appreciate everyone's concern. The thing that makes this so scary is that it can happen and someone can not know it until it gets to a stage where your options are only surgeries that are going to cause significant problems with a joint......but it happened and there is nothing that I can do to change that, so I will deal with it as I have to.
You have a wonderful Turkey day too.....
We all deserve one.

Yes, it matches my favorite shirt and my husband's truck......so at least I coordinate....LOL
I am going to find another hand surgeon in the city. While the ortho referred me to one locally, before I consent to anything, I want to make sure that my decision is the right one....so I will get at least a second opinion. I wish that I lived near you, I would travel to see your guy.....if he has your vote of confidence, then that is good enough reason for me to travel.

I'm so sorry for your pain and your cast. Are your kids old enough to put stuff and take stuff out of the oven? I don't think you should try to lift heavy stuff out of the oven. Please take care and take it as easy as you can. Do you just entertain your immediate family or are their more folks that come? I know that with family you can short cut a bit and they understand.

Yes, my girls are old enough to help and they will. They are good like that, thankfully. It is just my mother in law , but she is a big help as well. We'll muddle through and get it done.

Hi Sandi, I really wish you would have had better news than this.  Oh boy, not a good time to have to be wearing a caste either. the darn things seem to limit what we are able to do. You have on a purple caste and my caste was what I called periwinkle blue. lol.

Showering was an issue in trying to keep the caste dry. We had one of those Seal A MEAL  gadgets that came out a few years ago. Husband is a gadget man. He cut off a long piece of the plastic and sealed the end of it making me a sleeve to put my arm in. He then used that tape that is not sticky but sticks to itself and wrapped it aound the top of my arm and the bag and it kept it totally dry. I did see at the drug stores some kind of sleeve that could be used. Mine worked just fine.  

Take care gal and let us know how things go. Let the others wait on you for turkey day.  My DIL and I are splitting things up that way neither of us get bogged down with a lot of work in the kitchen.
