Serious Pain and cold weather...windy too.

Until the past few days I had forgotten how bad the weather affected my pain...but now I remember with a vengence.

Here in Nashville area we are having the most odd weather...one day it's nice and pretty warm, the next it's raining, then the wind and cold set in....My pain is out of control.

 

I can't sleep, I can't relax...I can't do much of anything...Even taking my pain meds isn't helping me much.  I don't know what to do.... I am so depressed.... I think the Holidays makes it worse for me...being in pain, not able to work, not able to be independent, having my mom pay for everything is awful... I am a grown woman that can't take care of myself or my son....

 

Sorry, I had to rant a bit... But it really didn't help...

Hey Me! ....feeling a little rough these days? Cold weather isn't good on anyone. I truly hope you get to feeling better soon. I haven't been feeling well myself either...and I guess the weather could well be playing a big part in it! It's supposed to get down to 3 degrees tonight here....burrr! I think most of my problem is that I just have not gotten used to the Oxycontin 30mg x2! I just feel rotten....and to be down right honest with you....I can't explain just how I feel. Like I have said many time, I will be so glad to get off of these pain meds and return back to as normal as I can. I for the life of me can't understand anyone who would take these for fun....I hate it!...with a passion! Hang in there, my friend....and try and get some much needed rest.

Hey Me...

I'm sorry for all that you are feeling, and going through right now. I think the depression bug hits many of us at this time of year. I've been feeling it too... And, yes, the extra pain....and lack of sleep.... It's all a recipe for disaster, isn't it?? I'm sorry for how overwhelmed you feel, Me... I really am. I wish there was something I could do or say to take it away from you! - I really would. But, as you know, we're here to listen..so just keep posting!

I hope you can relax a little tonight, if only just to get some sleep. I'll keep you in my prayers tonight...hope that's ok!

I'm sorry you are feeling down. Hopefully the weather shapes back up for you. What are winters in Nashville normally like? I'm really sorry to hear that the weather is having such a big impact on you, I hope that it warms up for you! I understand it being a rough time of year to. And as for not being an independent woman, just dealing with the level of pain that you're in makes you extremely strong and independent. I hope things look up for you, I'm sure that they will!!

Me, sorry to hear that your pain levels are escalating with the cold weather but you are not alone. It seems that here lately we have been hit by one front after another and the barometer is going crazy. I do think that the fluctuating barometric pressure is what gets us. I've been using my break through med pretty much on a regular basis to keep my pain at bay. Do you have something for bt pain along with something extended release? Tylenol has been helping with the achy joints and swollen muscles.

With your situation of living with your mother and feeling dependent. Have you ever tried filing for SSDI or some other program to become more independent? I'm sure it is hard being dependent on a family member & not being able to contribute. I am in that boat right now with my husband, who doesn't mind at all, while I am waiting to see if I get approved for SSDI. Possibly you could talk to Job & Family Services (that's what it is called in Ohio) to see what your options are or even your doctor may have some suggestions.

melliflious, The weather here is usually not bad. Sometimes we have snow, but not much. It's gotten very cold very early this year. We have strange weather in Mt. Juliet...just 13 miles east of Nashville. very windy...
bsjaguar, I know that we all go through this...it just seems worse now then before. I think my condition is getting worse that's why I'm hurting more...and not being able to work for the past 8 years isn't good...my son can't depend on me financially so he really doesn't respect me...my mom holds the money thing over my head but if I talk about working she says NO...I don't know when it will get better...

((((((((me)))))))))) Hang in there! The holidays are rough for a lot of people! And the weather, well, we all know that there is a good reason why the incidence of depression goes up in the winter! I'm sorry that the weather is affecting your pain so much! I'm lucky, the weather doesn't have a huge effect on me. It does effect me some, but not as much as other things.

Go curl up with a nice heated blanket & a cup of tea. Maybe think about trying some aromatherapy. I can't live without my lavender. I use it every night even though candles are forbidden in the dorms (shhhhh). It might just be psychological, but it helps me to relax a bit. You're going to get through this. It's not going to be fun, but you'll make it though.

I will hope that this year the winter is short for your area and that you'll warm up early....
I hate the cold too, give me a nice pleasant 73 f anyday/everyday eh....

Rhonda don't be so rough on yourself gal, it's just not worth it. But, I hear ya, the cold weather has done a number on me too. I can't do Humira right now and it helps my joint pain alot. I could take pain meds but if I do I will be in a fog and I have so much to do right now with shopping and I haven't even started decorating. I have been spending my days running back & forth to this dr or that dr. My knees started in a week ago and my knees have done so well the last 18 months. But it is all because of not being on Humira.

 

Do you qualify for any kind of assistance or are you blocked because you live with your Mom? Can you get SSD by chance? I know its rough living with someone else and not out on your own but, there could be worse situations for you. Try not to think about it so much. Its better than being on the streets with no place to live. I was thinking you sent your son to his dad's but it may have been someone else that did that. Can't remember. Just quit beating yourself up. You can only do so much.

The weather outside here IS frightful, and yes, all those temp. and barometric shifts affect me and many of us! We're supposed to get 1-2 FEET of snow between tonight and tomorrow night. Our weather reports often include an "aches and pains" index when the barometer is shifting, so it's not just in our heads!

Take care and try to stay warm - as much as possible. Then maybe you can think about the other things.

I know that the weather is worse where you are...and I shouldn't complain, I live in Tn. so it's not so bad here, but when it does get cold ,rainy and windy it really hits me all over....

I'm lucky that I do get TennCare and Foodstamps..and I am trying for SSI, I don't qualify for SSD because I haven't worked enough in the last 10 years...I haven't worked in over 8....so I know I am lucky...but not having an income of my own, and having to rely on my mom for any money really puts a damper on me...I hate not being able to just go to the store and buy something...but I shouldn't complain.

 

Thanks for all the support everyone...it really means so much.  Sometimes I forget that some other people are much worse off then me so I need to think about that. 

 

Pain shouldn't define me but sometimes I can't help that it does.  I can't go one day without thinking about it or talking about it...I wish I could.

 

So, gotta run for now...I am trying to put up decorations outside...Gotta actually climb a ladder....Oh man, that's scary...confused

Rhonda how long has it been since you applied for SSI? I hope it comes thru for you. It is awful to have to ask someone for money, I know where you are coming from there. But, again, don't beat yourself up over this, its not your fault.

All of us would rather be working and making our own way but sometimes that is just not part of the plan anymore. I always took care of my own all my life. But, now things are all different and I do not like it one bit either. I do think we all tend to get a little blue especially when the holidays roll around. We have a lot of great ideas and they are just that, ideas. Most never materialize, at least for me they don't. I could get all of my inside decorated in one day if I had one helper. But, I don't have that helper so I don't know what will get done if anything. I am trying not to let that drag me down the tubes. Its rotten knowing what I use to be able to do and knowing what I can do now. It sux big time.

Oh Straydog, You are right there with me aren't you?  I hate not being able to do things on my own..sometimes I overdue it just to prove to myself and everyone else that I can do it..but of course i suffer for it.  I still haven't done the outside decorating yet....I was going to do it yesterday but didn't feel like it. So, now I have to do it today because I borrowed a ladder from my neighbor.

 

I haven't applied yet, I am still trying to get all of my records from almost 20 years ago...what an ordeal... I am waiting for some to come from Knoxville, Tn. and I want to do it right....so I don't have any trouble.

 

I love the Holidays but it can be so nerve racking....Have a great day..

Rhonda, I am right beside you gal. I do attempt to do everything on my own. Everyone else is busy and have their own lives to deal with. I have two grown children but I do not ask them very often to help because I know what their days are like. They are busy with work and children. I wait till its really an emergency type thing before I enlist their help. I refuse to be one of those mother's that calls her children every time the sky doesn't look right, lol. I was raised to be independant and do things on my own and that has stuck with me throughout my life. Yes, I get out there and do many things I shouldn't but if I don't who will? The good fairy does not stop at my house, I am the good fairy. Yes, I rack myslef up doing things too.

My weatherbug says it will be in the 60's tomorrow which is hard to believe considering its in the 30's today. If that is true then I will put up my net lights and wreaths. I also have some solid colored balls that light up, have had them for yrs, still new in their boxes, I want to hang them too. It may be my outside get decorated and nothing on the inside oh, well so be it. One day at a time right.

I hope all goes well on the SSI. Why in the world do they need records from 20 yrs ago, that is nuts. Are you speaking of medical records? Take care and watch the ladder.

Ok, on the overdue it thing, we got 19 inches of snow in one 24 hour period. My back is killing me, even though I put my back brace on. i shovel in small segments so I don't have to do it all at once, and thankfully my cousin got the nasty stuff at the end of my driveway earlier today. And it's going to warm up by Monday into the 40 (we've been down in the teens, which is very cold for this early!). I hope I can drive and get my meds from my doctor's office (about 45 minuts away) and get my driver's license photo ID as it's due by that day! I've forgotten all about deocrating, which I don't do much of anyway.

Susie, it sounds like you have to scale back a bit with the decorating thing, with all you've got going on! Maybe you need to set up a simpler plan for now and future years? (ok, I'm ducking!)

Rhonda - didn't mean to hijack your thread, but here we all sit people who can't do what we want to do!

Oh Rhonda, Please be careful up that ladder! Extremes of temperature do it everytime for me too.

We are in a heat wave in Sydney, beautiful hot days and everything swells accordingly!!! But for the COLD. Get all your heat packs out, nuke them in the microwave and sit wrapped in their joyous wamth!

I'm trying the ice treatment instead. Snow sounds romantic to me but I know dealing with it must be hard. I've only experienced it a handful of times in my life when we were living in Ireland. So its a novelty.

Ok, snow can be pretty. And romantic. And all sorts of other stuff but mostly when you're young and healthy!

I'm booking my flight to Sydney now! :-)
