Sorry this is so late, but I have had a rough couple of days now. Yesterday I went to get my Epidural in my neck, and that was the most painful thing I have been through with the exception of my Heart Attack that I had in 2002. To start with I was impressed with the Dr. that we saw yesterday, as he did a thorough exanimation of me, with respect to my neck pain. One of the first things that he told me was that he was willing to take over my pain management program. I was floored to hear this, as I have had a terrible time finding one here in this area, and then now, one seems to fall in my lap! Wahoo! I was under the impression that all they did were injections, since it was part of the local hospital campus. During his examination of me he located a muscle that was in constant spasm, and said he really did not think my pain was coming from my neck. It is at the base of my neck, right at the top of my shoulder blade. He suggested injections for it. I need to let you know that when they called for the appointment, I asked if they sedated! The nurse said he almost never does that, and immediately I had a fear come over me. I asked again when we got there to check in and fill out all the forms. Again, they said it is a very rare occasion that he would do so. Well when the Dr came in, he brought it up on his own, since the nurses had told him I was asking about
it. He said that he preferred not to use it. He said the local would be enough, so I thought it would be ok with his assurance. WRONG! WRONG! WRONG! I should have known better than to agree to this, with my past history with pain and all. Well they started, and Im hear to tell you that it was unbearable; all the while they kept telling me that it was going to get better. WRONG! WRONG! WRONG! It got worse, way worse! After they hit the space that was the magic spot they kept talking about
, they said that all I should feel was pressure. WRONG! WRONG! WRONG! The pain got worse as they injected the Steroids. My shoulders were killing me to the point I was screaming out in pain and bawling. My wife was in the room with me, covered up with a lead blanket they provided, so she could stay and watch. Deborah had never seen me in this kind of pain before and it brought tears to her eyes too. I can tell you that I started swearing at the Dr, and that he should have listened to me in the first place. It was not a pretty thing to hear, and not like me at all! I was so mad about
it! The Dr kept apologizing to my wife and I over and over, and said he had never had a patient have that kind of a reaction. He assured me that the next time they would be giving me a sedative. After it was over with, he showed us the scope and how the dye had a good flare in the right area. I had to lie there for 20min before I could get up. When I left to go home, I swear I looked like I was 150 years old. I could hardly walk and could not lift my head up. I have never been through anything like that before.
This has two parts to it, so I will break the page here and post the rest in a bit. Sorry for the length, but I have much more to say, and I want some of the veteran members to tell me what they think when they hear the rest of it.
