Hi everyone. I just joined this group and hope someone has some insight for me. Its a long story, but I was injured in a fall in 1991 ( I,m a retired nurse.) I wont go into details about
the fall, just to say it took me years to get a diagnosis and it shouldn,t have. After wrangling with Workman,s Comp, every GP in town, etc, I was sent to a specilist who found a torn Meniscus and a Baker,s Cyst behind my knee. I had surgery for both, but continued to have excruciating pain behind my left knee, extending into my calf and foot. I eventually had to quit work because of it. I could no longer tolerate eight to ten hours on my feet, not to mention bending and stooping with my med carts and treatment carts. It just became too much for me. What really became frustrating was finding a doctor who could diagnose why I was having such intense pains and exactly where they were coming from and finding a medicatuion that helped. I,ve taken them all and I,m sure alot of you know what I mean. They started me out on OTC meds, then Arthritis meds, then stronger RX meds. After so long a time they decide its all in your head and try to give you antidepressants. It wasn,t until about
nine years later that I finally got a doctor to give me Lortab. It was the only thing and I do mean the only thing that touched the pain I was having. Now almost eighteen years later and I,m still on Lortab, even though they aren,t as effective as they use to be. I was put on Neurontin about
a month ago and thought it was going to help me, and it did for about
two days. Then nothing. I have a cabinet full of old meds that were prescribed, but never worked. So here I am. Older, but wiser and still in pain. I have to tell you guys I,m extremely sensitive to narcotic pain meds. What some of you take would lay me up in bed for weeks. I,m in a catch 22. Too much meds and I,m in bed all day unable to do nothing but sleep. Too little and I,m in agony and barely able to function. I,ve basically just learned to live with it.
