One day of no lower back pain!!!

As you all know I had an injection into the facet joint at L-5/S-1 a week ago, without steroids.  They had told me that my pain relief would be short lived but that it was just to find which area was causing my lower back pain.  Well, the day after the injection my back was very stiff so it was hard to tell the level of relief.  By Wednesday, my lower back pain was down to a 2.  It was heaven!!!!!  I have had lower back, hip & side pain constantly for 7 yrs and it felt so good.  By the next day the pain levels had increased and now it is back to my normal 6-8 depending on the weather.

My next step will be a block of some sort before RF will be done.  I definately will move on with the block because after having my 1 day of no pain I want MORE.  Even if I only get a few months it would be worth it.

Just wish this was my only problem area but anything is better than nothing when it comes to chronic pain. 

Jag, I'm happy for you! However mine is back, and Im not feeling to well. It will be back to the PCD for me over the Holiday's!

I knew you all would understand how happy I was with even just one day of no lower back pain. I remember after my lumbar fusion being pain free while I was walking & wearing my back brace and of course the walker. I thought at that time the doctors had finally cured me. Of, course, once I got back to the normal everyday stuff and getting back to work it was short lived but I still remember it.

Screaming I'm sorry to hear your epidural didn't last. I got two months out of my last injection into my bulding disk at L/2-3.

Scarred, I definately got a kick out of your post. Did you just take your meds? You wished that my lower back pain would last for years to come. Thanks alot!

I know that even if the rf works it is not a fix and probably the most I could wish for is maybe 9 months but wouldn't that be great. Don't want to get my hopes up too high though.

That must mean they at least located one of the areas causing the pain, so yes, an RF's a good possibility. And I've read they can last for some people up to 2 years. You never know by then what else will have been developed, plus I think you may be able to have it re-done.

That's not gonna happen, Pete, but thanks for thinking of me. Yesterday my sides & hips were killing me everytime I moved but if I don't move I get still all over. It's a catch 22.

I have to agree with stray, it is very encouraging news! When they did the RF on me it only lasted about two hours. Unfortunately it was the numbing medicine that was the relief that I desired and when that wore off the pain once again returned with fresh vengeance! It's terrible that it didn't work but it wasn't a year later that my Pain doc figured out why. The nerves that are impinged are deep in my back and too close to my spinal cord to really be able to fix.

The neuro that I went to in Wichita looked at the Disogram results as well as my recent MRI and said the same thing. If they were to go in and try to fix them I would be paralyzed from the waist down for the rest of my life! And that is a risk I refuse to take!!
