Hello and thanks to all my good friends who have been here for me and helped me through this stressful time. Well I woke up yesterday morning w/ very blurry vission in my bad eye which had been bleeding, I must have scratched it while sleeping. Luckily I had made a dr. apt. the prior day because I have been feeling really rotten ever since my eye surgery last Weds and figured the two were connected somehow.


The doc who did my surgery wasn't at the office so I saw a nice lady doc who was super nice and really sharp! The first thing she said was I know you have been waiting for your path report and it just came in this a.m.>>>> No Cancer!!! Just some sort of growth that we old people get from time to time but this one just happened to be on my eye!



She then put that big telliscope looking machine on my eye and looked in. Looks like you did some damage last night! I had knocked off the skin which the doc had pulled across and sewed over the hole. Pulled a "Pete" on my eye w/ out even knowing it! Now what?



Not sure? You have an apt. to see your reg doc who did the surgery on Friday, we'll wait to see what he thinks?

Okey dokey doc! As long as there is no "C" in my eye, I can tollerate a big hole in my eye & longer recoop time any day! So what do you think has been making me feel so lousy since my surgery, stress? Maybe, what has the doc prescribed for you? <>> just these eye drops. > Hmmmm, do you have a problem w/ taking steroids? Yep, hate them! Ahhh-Ha!!! there are steroids in these eye drops that are 10 times stronger than prednizone! Problem solved! Don't use them any more. I just bought my second $30. bottle of drops, Oh Poop! Here's a new script for antibiotics w/o the steroids. Sure wish I had gotten my SSD bennies instead of a reject letter but thats another topic and post!



Speaking of another post, I went to my new pain doc yesterday afternoon. It was much farther than I thought and I got there 5 minutes late. The room was filled at 3:00pm, not a good sign! Of course it took me about a half hour to fill out all the paper work which had my carpol tunnel making my writing hand really sloppy after the first 5 or 6 pages. I finally finished and handed them to the busy lady at the front desk. She looked them over and said, wow, you did them all right! That rarely happens! I've had a lot of practice Mam!



Then she said great your next. The nurse then took me back to examaning room #5 took my temp & B/P and said the doc will be right in. One and a half hours later this burley short stocky guy comes in and introduces himself Dr. Mohomed such&such w/o even making eye contact w/ me! He looks at my chart and starts reading. Methadone, Oxicodone>>> I don't like this! Still never making eye contact w/ me he tells me he wants to cut back my oxicodone and leave the methadone alone!



I want to put you on something longer acting in the future he says. Looking around at the office at all the freebee's I already knew what he wanted to give me. There were Avinza callenders, signs, blotters, charts everywhere. Have you ever tried Avinza? Yep, years ago> I hated it, made me sick!!! Well, we'll talk about it at your next apt. It's now 5:30pm and I've been there for two and a half hours for this?????



So what the hell do I do now? Go to another doc and look like I'm dr. shopping? Go back to my old doc 4 hours away after my new scripts run out or just stay w/ this jerk? Oh what a day it's been!!!



So anyway, carpol tunnel is setting in w/ this long post. I think I'll let the dust settle and see what all of Y'all think about this new mess??? Oh Geeze, I forgot to ask him about my ruptured Accillese tenden??? Oh well!!!

What the hey Pete? So did you get the Avinza to try or did he just send you out the door with less pain relief (no oxycodone for bt pain)? This is why I always try to make my appt. in the morning, less chance of them getting too far behind before it is my turn.

Glad to hear there is no Cancer!!!!! Like I said before I had an eye injury before and it hurts like the devil. Glad to hear the lady doc asked you about the steroid in the eye drop and prescribed something different. Hopefully it will help.

Take it easy and try to get some rest, sounds like your stress levels are on full charge right now but knowing you don't have cancer in the eye should help with that.

Pete great news on the peepers. Um, new dr could use the old wait and see approach. Or make the 4 hr ride to the old one-at least u have an option there. I know driving is a booger but still possible. I hate the new dr scene makes us feel vulverable doesn't it. I hate that. Not sure what the plan will be for u.

   Hello Petey Boy! :) You know!....no matter what you write....good or bad...I always enjoy reading your post! There always written with personality! Great Job! As everyone else here...I'm happy for you, that you don't have cancer of the eye. Good deal! Aren't those visits with a new PM fun!...the little twit's are easy to read at times. I don't know...maybe it's just me...but I treat them like a car sales man...and tell them...I'm not stupid right off the bat...so save there dancing and prancing for someone else....my eye..assures them that I don't like someone wasting my time with the little talk, and lets get it on. Have a great day Pete...and lets hope now that you can get the SSD figured out! :)

congrats on your path report! great news!!

I say skip this new doc- whats the med she suggested? what does it do?


I cant stand it when people dont look you in the eye! That and when someone shakes your hand like their hand is a cooked noodle.

Great news that there is no cancer, but what a nightmare finding this new doc! Suddenly a 4 hour drive doesn't sound so bad if you get treated humanely. What did he prescribe for break through pain?

Did he leave you without meds? So irresponsible.

Goodluck with the eye on Friday, you'll have to bandage up your hands at night like I use to do for my babies when they had eczema!

Don't leave the archilles tendon too long before dealing with it. My friend had to wear a boot forever after leaving his too long.

Do you have splints for the carpel tunnel? They help with the swelling alot for me, especially when driving or on the computer.

Some great news on that not being cancer, I'm happy for you about that. I'd say run do not walk from this doctor, (I had some choice words in there, but then thought this is a family website). Go back to your old PM doc 4 hours away tell him the drive is hard on you and if he could recommend someone for your area. Sure wish I had better advise for you. Maybe med schools need to do more testing to produce better more compassionate doctors. and I wish we could report these idiot doctors without it getting back into our files, here in Texas if you file a compliant it goes in your patient record too and that's not right. as I would've report a few.
Lots of well wishes, try to sleep with your hands in gloves so you don't scratch your eye's and lots of soft hugz...

Thanks for all the well wishes and advice kids! Sorry I didn't explain better about the new pain doc. He, while shaking his head looking at what I had wrote on my paperwork prior to seeing him said> "You take too much oxicodone w/ the methadone" so he cut me from 6 x 15mgs per day to 4 x 15mgs. per day and left the 4 x 10mgs per day alone. So the script he gave me for oxys went from 180 per month to 120!!!


What gets me is he really didn't ask too much about my conditions just about how much I was taking. Maybe he is afraid of the DEA or local policia, I don't know but thats a big chunk of pain meds to just take away from someone who has been taking that amount for a long time, don't you think???



Oh I know I could get by w/ that much, I usually don't take six a day anyway but it was just the way he handled it. He seemed more concerned w/ himself and the way he treats his patients than me and my pain.



As far as the Avinza Merrygirl, it's a time release morphine and like I said earlier, I took it once about 7 or 8 years ago and hated it!! I don't like any morphine and after being on methadone so long, I think it would be pretty bad news to just switch over like he suggested. When I had my cervical fusion last March they gave me morphine and it didn't help me at all!!! I begged for oral methadone & oxycodone instead of the injections they were trying on me that didn't work. I was in agony and really found out what a #10 on our pain scale is!!! I will never say I'm at 9 or 10 again unless I really mean it!!! I believe at the pain of a 9 or 10 means the only thing that a person is able to do is scream and cry, nothing else!



So I think that that was the last time I'll see that pain doc! The only problem is that my new

reg doc, the one who wrote all my reg scripts like blood pres, thyroid and effecsor is the guy who sent me to him, I think they are buddies so I may have to get a new personal doc too. I guess we'll cross that bridge when we get there.



My eye looks terrable today! It looks like a big chunk of white is gone>> da! it is gone! There's a big nasty hole there where the gross tumor used to be! It looked so good right after the surgery compaired to what it looks like now! I have a pupu eye!

I have done nothing for a week and am going crazy so I just went over to my Mom's new place (she's getting all settled in and loves it here) to hang a shelf for her over her washer/dryer. I feel a little better today so I went down to the barn and took the tractor out to spread the horse poop around the field w/ a drag when my wife came running down w/ an eye patch and said I couldn't do it w/o wearing the black pirate looking patch to keep the dirt, dust and poop out of my pupu eye!!!! OK so I spent about an hour driving around the pasture spreading poop, a very relaxing job!



Pete Jr. called from Hati today! They are running hellocoptors full of supplies to land from their ship because they can't get into the harbor yet. I guess it's full of junk and rubble from the quake! He's been running a fork lift nonstop since they got there, not his job but he vollentered! I'm so proud of him!!! He is a special guy! The girl who gets him will be one lucky lady! Everyone who meets him says the same thing, not just his Big pops!



Anyway, all for now. I have a back/neck ache from bumping around on the tractor and need a hot shower, also to wash all the poop dust and grime off myself! Thanks again and as usual for all your kind posts! Sorry I didn't adress each one of you but Y'all know I love you>> Each and every one!!!

That is FANTASTIC news about the path report! Wonderful!
I'm sorry to hear that you are having trouble with your eye. A couple weeks after my last eye surgery, I accidentally ripped out my sutures. I have no idea how I did it, but boy did those suture fragments in my eye hurt. I can't imagine that hole is much fun either! Maybe the doc can put a stitch in it & close it up on Friday.

Sorry to hear about the PM as well. Are there any other pain clinics around where you are, or would your pcp be willing to treat your pain? It doesn't sound like this is the right doc for you. First of all he was too busy (sounds like me old PM) & was probably so rushed to see patients that he practically had his hand on the door to leave as soon as he came in the room (again, like my old PM). And second, he didn't take a full history or really have much interaction with you. A good doctor-patient relationship is crucial. If I were you, I'd definitely look elsewhere.

Geez Pete, Poop in the eye is probably as bad a steriods. I agree with the others that it is great news regarding the path report. I hope the visit to the eye doc on friday goes well and they can repair the booboo without much problem or pain. I can imagine that a PMS sees plenty of pain in the necks during a normal day at the office. I can imagine that they get their share of patients that they just can't stand but that in no way gives them the right to treat someone like another name or number on a chart. I am with the opinion that you go back to the pld one until you get a good report of someone closer. Good luck my friend and I will keep you in my prayers.

Hope I can get this post in before HW crashes on me again! GREAT news about the eye as far as no cancer is concerned. Since I'm going to have to drive 3 hrs to see a doc re: pain meds as soon as the weather here lightens up a bit, I sure understand not wanting to do that. But it does sound like your old doc was better for you.

I don't know how often you had to go down and see your former doc. If it was monthly, and you've been a long-term patient and have a good relationship, I wonder if they'd be willing to give you two month's worth of scripts. I don't know what the regulations are in Florida (I know they're starting to crack down, right?) but here my Neurosurgeon's nurse was mailing me my scripts. Is there any kind of arrangement that might be made so you don't have to drive down that often? Driving down a few times a year isn't so bad. You can always tell your new PCP that you just felt more comfortable with your old doc, and you have to be down in that area to take care of your house. Really the truth anyway, right?

Anyway, keep that patch on! maybe you need to sleep with it on? Or do like someone suggested and put mittens on your hands - and maybe one of those big collars they put on our pets after surgery to keep them from scratching or licking an area! LOL

Celebrate the good news - by RELAXING a little!!!

I've been reading about your eye issues... and I just want to say that I'm really glad the report came in...and that it isn't cancer. That's great news!

Re: your pain doctor... it took me YEARS to find the "right" doctor. I went through about every scenario possible w/ different doctors... What I don't understand is "why" the new doctor would immediately come in and cut your medications so much. They seem to be working for you... you've been on them for a long period of time... etc. Also, if the medications are working for you, why did he want to immediately change your long-lasting medication? If something is working for you, at whatever dose, I think a doctor should be listening to that and not wanting to come in and just change everything up, right?

I think PALady had some great suggestions about possibly continuing to see your old doc... picking up scripts every two months (that's what I used to do w/ my doctor, until the last few months when I've been having some more health issues). Possibly having your scripts mailed to you. I just think there's nothing like having a doctor that really listens to you and your needs. You've been through so much and I really hope you can find the right doctor for you, Pete.

Keep that patch on, and I hope your eye heals quickly. yeah --Tina

Thank You sooooo much for all the great advice!!!` Like I said, I ain't goin back to that peice of crap dr. again! The more I think about it the more PO'ed I get!

As for going back to my old Dr. down south, to tell you the truth, I wasn't all that happy there either. Even though I had gone to them for years and followed this doc when she split from my other doc years ago> they were partners, I dunno, there just was something lacking there even though I did get pretty special treatment compared to others. Heck I knew all the office girls and employees for years! Not special enough to get a 2 month script or even one month sent to me though!!! This is in S.E. Fla. the perscription drug capital of the country and doing anything like that is illegal in Fla. I've heard that all the pain docs and clinics are being watched pretty closely now after all the press they have recieved lately! Oh, I'm sure it's still going on down there though, they just make sure all the i's are dotted and t's crossed!!!

I just think there has to be someone ( a Dr.) in this area that is more caring and not in it for just the $$$!!! I have found that gennerally people here in this area are MUCH friendlier than where I came from! Seems like everyone will say hello or even stop to talk to you around here> Country folks in the "old South" I hope some of the doc's are that way too. Gotta keep the faith!!!

So I'm going to wait a month after my scripts are filled and look for someone else. Actually, I'll be looking sooner but will not get an apt. untill after the scripts run out, just incase!

All fer now, gotta git to da chores, I hear maw callin!!

Oh Pete, you crack me up. Try to avoid getting horse manure in your eye, alright? Silly. I am so very, very relieved to hear that the pathology came back the way we were all hoping. It is a bummer though that this new doc was no good. As bad a connotation as "shopping" for doctors has, maybe that's exactly what you need to do. I think the earlier suggestions of seeing if your old doctor will mail you the scripts in the meantime is a good idea. I hope everything turns out alright. Don't push yourself too much!!

Pete I'm glad too that your path report came back cancer free I can just imagine the kind of week you must have been through with the worry of a bad outcome. Pain docs are a strange breed I think, it's hard to imagine sitting and listening to everyone's pain problems but they chose that field so that's was his/her choice. It calls for empathy and understanding that by the time we see them we've exhausted the all other options. A 4 hr trip sounds almost like a overnighter to me.....I couldn't probably take 8 hours in the car in one day maybe if you broke your trip up it wouldn't feel as bad. Good luck with whatever you do.

Jenna, no way my old doc will mail anything! Thats a no=no for narcotics here in Fla. I'm really trying to take it easy but it's driving me nuts! At least there was some great football games on yesterday which kept me in the house all afternoon. I did do chores all morning though, it was a beutiful day to be outside.

Cathy & Jag, My apt. on Friday went fine. The doc told me I ripped out a couple stitches but the hole wasn't to big to worry about. He told me he had put in double the stitches all around the incision and that was why I woke up in the surgery before he had finished! He changed my drops but when I got to the pharm, they had a script for the same drops I'm already using!!! Mix up somewhere along the line, I'll call them when they open today and get it straightened out!

Heard from Pete Jr. in Hati last night in an e-mail. He told me he was scarred %$#*&^^@!!! on the ship when they had the aftershock quakes there last week! He said he thought the ship was going to sink! He also said, we really can't imajine how bad it is over there. The people are desperate for food and medical help. Even though he was upset he only got to stay in the USA for a little over 2 weeks, he's glad he was sent to Hati now as he is seeing first had how bad things are over there and knows they need our help! He's growing up fast! I'm so proud!
All for now, I must get moving as sitting here hurts!

     Sorry I havnt been around much this last week, things are getting kinda.... hard. I just wanted to stop by and say HOLY COW! You, my friend, have alot on your plate! I am glad your eye doesnt have the big C. That was one of my biggest worries, esp. with your history. I am however, disapointed, to say the least, in the new pain management doctor. I agreee, that he seems far to disconnected to be of any use in long term care. Oh im sure he just right for some folks.... But your needs need to be met by someone who is much more attentive to detail. Maybe it will be a blessing in disguise, ridding yourself of him and your pcp. Fresh start. I remember at one point you saying something about your achiellies? Is that right? You have alot of reasons to need a new team of docs, for sure. ...And oh my goodness! Your son, wow! I would be oh so very proud! He really shines and that is fantastic!!! I will end it here, dont want to chat away while your eye is hurting. But, sure hope you can relax and take it easy.

I'm glad my computer is working a LITTLE better today so I can reply to you. I hope that eye heals and I hope you give it a chance to! Maybe you need to be indoors watching sports more often - keeps you out of trouble! LOL

When you e-mail your son back tell him I'm proud of him, too. I know we can't get political here, but sometimes the U.S. gets known so much only for hurting others in wars, and I'm glad we and many other countries are getting a chance to help. I've been watching the CNN coverage, and I'm sure it can't compare in any way to being there. And the aftershocks! Hopefully the boat weathers them better than the land, unless there's a "big wave" but even then I'm guessing you've got a better chance on a boat (although I don't know!). So much need there. Unimaginable to most of us, I think.
