And I'm glad you're back! Don't worry about the posting. I'm sure you were in need of help but we do need to keep this a family site and keep to the owners rules.

Have you considered or tried a new doctor? I know it can be a bit risky for those with chronic pain because we can be accused of doctor shopping...BUT, there is no way a decent physician would stop you cold turkey when you are taking an opioid medication. That's just not done..it can kill people doing it that way. There is a medication that will help you get through withdrawal without the side effects. It's called suboxone. You might ask your doc to prescribe it for you.

If I were you, thought, I'd be looking for some place that can give you some serious help. My first choice would be a university/teaching hospital. There are lots of them around the country and they are not afraid to treat pain. Many of them are conducting research on pain issues so they are always on the cutting edge of the newest medications and techniques available. In the Chronic Pain 101 'sticky' at the top of the page is a link to a large list of these facilities around the world. Here's the link so you don't have to hunt for it...

Do NOT give up! It doesn't matter if your insurance company is 'drawing the line'. You don't have to take NO for an answer. There are options you have! First, try the insurance commissioner of your state. In Washington state it's the Washington state office of Insurance Commissioner. Each state has one. The all have a way to file complaints and/or get help. If you don't get any satisfaction there then get in touch with your local representatives. Look up either your state senator or representative and they have a forum to email them. Tell them what your problem is and what sort of help you need. This is the reason these folks are there...to help the people they represent in any way they can. You'd be surprised how fast they will respond...at least they always have for me. On that forum you fill out there will be a box asking if you want the email sent to your other representatives. Do it! You will have the phone ringing and help on the way.

Next you need to get to a university/teaching hospital and they will link you up with a specialist for what you need. Your case is unusual but that doesn't mean that your doc has any right to just give up. He's not living up to his oath nor is he giving you the respect you deserve.

Ace..you can live a good life but you will have to take the first steps to get things rolling. Let these folks help if you want to get your life back. And...keep Chutzie and everyone up to date on how things are going or if you need help...OK?

I understand what you are going through. I am no longer on pain meds anymore because I lost my insurance. But i never went through withdrawls and I am sorry you did . I had to quit cold turkey also . I hope you find a pain med that helps you.

Hi Ace, wow wondered where you went off to. I don't really have alot to add because I think Chutzie has given you the very best advice there is on trying to get something done on your behalf. You asked about Fibro and I can tell you there is no real test to dx it. From what I understand drs look for certain symptoms and if you have these symptoms then thats how a person is dx'd w/Fibro. A lot of drs prescribed Lyrica for Fibro and many get good results from it. The best thing you can do is skip over to the Fibro board here at HW and do some reading of the threads. Those folks have a ton of info on their forum.

From what you described about the discogram it sounds like you have some positive findings. I would get a copy of the written report and get busy on what Chutzie recommended and get me some medical treatment. Was your pain reproduced at certain levels when they injected the disc during the discogram?

Keep us posted on what you have been able to get accomplished. You have come this far don't give up now, you have more fight left than you realize.

When they did the disogram they did 5 disc, 2 of the disc caused me no pain, put 3 killed me, O couldn't tell witch one hurt worst!! I can tell you for fact don't go threw that test if you don't have to!

I have had every test possi8ble done, and they claim there is no repair!

Ace, did your dr recommend surgery after the disco? I do hope you will take action on what Chutz has suggested, she knows what she is talking about. Most of the orthopods I know will not consider doing disco on people, they claim they are too dangerous, and not all that reliable. Many folks have ended with tears in their discs after having one done and they just don't like them. Alot of PM drs recommend them for their patients and some Do's, but the MD's I know want no part of that test for their patients.
