Had nerve block injection today

I had my nerve block injection today at L-4/5 and so far so good.  I had immediate good results.  Even my muscle spasms that are there in my lumbar spine constantly were gone.  I can't believe the relief.  To bad the results are only expected to last 8-10 hrs and then I will be back to my normal old hurting self but at least I know that they've found the right nerve.  I have another appt in 30 days and at that time I should be able to schedule the rf (radio frequency abalation). 

I wanted to speak to the doctor about my feeling like I'm running a low grade fever and aching all over every afternoon & evening but I didn't get to speak with him until after my procedure & he said that he wouldn't make any med changes while I was still under the influence but that I should call the office later to see about trying a new muscle relaxer.  They could call in a new script at that time.

My left leg just left of the groin area is bothering me now and even my big toes on both feet are a little numb but hopefully this will pass with some rest.

Hi Jag,

I'm so glad to hear that you're getting positive results from the nerve block! Hopefully this means that if/when you have RF done, it will be a huge success! Wouldn't that be fantastic!!

Enjoy the relief while it lasts -- it's a precious thing.

Nerve block being done Wed. Tricky area for doc to get the injection just right. Lumascoptic injection helps guide the doc. Had many and would rate them good ONLY when they work. At times you can get relief for 6mos to a year. Paul

Jag, isn't it great to get some relief even temporary. Lets hope the RF does the trick. at least it is something to look forward to with the potential of longer lasting relief. Take it easy for a few days and be kind to yourself. Hugs.

Hello Jag! ...Hey!...That sounds great! Maybe there is some hope in the future for your pain relief. You know that I have my fingers and toes all crossed for you! :) I bet you are elated about this....and I'm sure it has brightened your day quite a bit. You know...we just love to hear story's of sucess like this here, and we don't get to hear it often enough. Wahoo! Wonderful! :) Hang in there Kido! Please do keep us up to date on your progress.

That's great news! I hope the RF can be as successful. If the other sensations don't improve in a day or two, I'd call the doc who did the injection and ask.

You must be breathing a big sigh of relief tonight.

The leg pain & numb toes passed by the next morning but I will definately ask about these symptoms before having the rf done.  Don't want them to become a permanent feature.

I did end up with about 24 hrs of relief and I was just amazed that after the injection that the muscle spasms stopped so quickly.  I would have thought that they would have taken time to be stopped.  The muscle spasms that hurt everytime I bend, twist or move any which way are my biggest problem.  I don't go back for my follow-up until the first week of March but will let you all know then what I find out.  Oh, yea, I don't know if this is related but even the achey feverish feelings were better.  Who knows????

That's great those other symptoms passed, but you're right to want to check it out before the RF. I know when I've had injections sometimes I've had unwanted side effects like that - numbness, etc. in some other area, and usually it passed, but with an RF you sure don't want it to be permanent, although I do think that when you injure a particular nerve that's always a risk.

Amazing how the muscles calm down when the nerve isn't firing off the pain signals! As far as the achy stuff, who knows is right. Stress on the body can cause so many things to go wrong!

I'm just glad you got some relief!

     Good morning! *hugg* It is so good to hear the procedure went so well! The RF could really help you out alot, just sorry you have to wait so darn long! Also, I am terribly sorry I didnt respond sooner but things have been.. hecktic around here.

was nice to hear from you and it sounds like maybe the rf procedure will work for you. So keep us posted when you get that done so I can send lots of extra soft hugz to you and well wishes...
