As most of you know, after a 4 mo long fight with my insurance company, I was finally approved & scheduled to undergo a week-long trial of a peripheral nerve stimulator beginning tomorrow.

Well, it's been canceled AGAIN (on the day before, AGAIN). Apparently the hospital where it was supposed to be done is no longer taking my insurance. I do have out-of-network benefits, but that would mean that the hospital could charge us whatever (fictitious) rates they wanted & we'd end up paying thousands of dollars out of pocket, which we can't afford. The doctor's office was under the impression that because my procedure was originally scheduled for December (when the hospital still accepted my insurance) that the hospital would accept my insurance for my case only. But today, when they called the hospital to verify this, the hospital refused to accept my insurance. Of course my insurance agent, who helped me get this procedure approved in the first place, is out of the state & unable to help me. The hospital is saying that the only way that they will accept my insurance is if I appeal to my insurance company yet again (which probably means several more months of fighting the insurance company).

Needless to say I'm really upset, disappointed, frustrated, angry...the works... Fortunately I do have the option of rescheduling at a different hospital, which does take my insurance, however, my surgeon does not routinely operate there & therefore we are unsure when he would be able to get OR time. Which means that I'll potentially have to wait another month or two & will have to have all my pre-op testing & everything done all over (for the 3rd time now).

I know it's not the end of the world because the trial is probably going to end up happening sooner or later, but right now I'm just upset. I was so looking forward to this. This is just a huge let-down.

Skeye, sorry to hear about the ins. nightmare. Things will be different when the government is in control of ins. (joking) By the way, congradualtions college graduate! Hopefully your dr can get things arranged at another hospital sooner than later. This roller coaster that you have been on wiill eventually come to a point where you will know if the scs will work. Hang in there, you are not alone.

Oh Skeye, you just can't catch a break. I'm so sorry about this. Surely something will give soon and you'll be able to do the trial. I have to admit, though, that I'm glad you found out before the procedure because you could have really been in a mess with this one if they had not told you. My insurance recently went back and denied a pre-certed procedure from last year and left me with a fortune to pay. You certainly don't need that on top of everything else.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

Skeye, I am so sorry to hear this. I can imagine how disappointed you must be...I had a surgery cancelled while I was IN the OR...the doctors were unable to find a vein to start an IV (they even tried to do a central line in my groin), but I was so dehydrated that they couldn't find one after an hour, so they cancelled it and I had it done several months later.

I hope that your Insurance Agent is able to help out once again and push something through at the other hospital. And I really hope that this doesn't take months and months of waiting on your part.

If it isn't one thing it is another, I am so sorry that all this is happening to you! Hang in there, hopefully things will all work out in the end, I keep you in my prayers!

I am speechless but heartbroken for you! And angry!

The only thought I have is some kind of direct, in-person appeal to the hospital - and I mean someone like the CEO. Is this by any chance a hospital with a religious affiliation? If so, appealing with a disguised goal of causing some guilt might help. And if that doesn't work a letter to the editor of your paper could be interesting - I think your entire story would be compelling and, considering the hospital had agreed to do it in December, put some pressure on them to make an exception in your case.

But in the meantime, I don't blame you for feeling as you do. Disappointment doesn't even cover it. But I'm also glad that you have a long-term outlook that is positive.

Oh my goodness Skeye. I couldn't believe it when I read the title of your post. I thought, oh no, don't tell it was cancelled again!!! Such bad luck, that's the way i feel as well. Only bad things seem to be coming my way. I hope you will be able to get it all worked out and not have to wait too long to have a go at this operation. I will pray for you my friend.

Oh Skeye...

I'm sorry... I can only imagine how frustrated and disappointed you are. Like you said, you know it's still going to happen - which is the good thing... but to have something cancelled at the last minute is so disappointing.

I'll pray for you that everything falls into place from here. Hang in there, Skeye...

Skeye, I can't believe it. Again! How unlucky is that? I'd be furious, you sound so resined! I'm amazed at your acceptance.
I really hope you can get this worked out really soon, how incredibly frustrating for you to have to deal with all this again. Health care is so uncaring!

   Oh gosh, not again!!! I am so terribly sorry they did this to your Skeye *big hugg* I was so hoping you would be going in to surgery, get your trial done, do a full implant and have enough time to enjoy the summer. I wish this was happening to someone, anyone else, other than you! Gosh, I sure hope the surgeon jumps into action to get things taken care of quickly. Hang in there and stay stong! Something has got to give!

That really stinks Skeye! I'm so sorry that those jerks can't seem to get their **** together! Hopefully it will be an old memory when you finally ger er done!!!

Hi all,

Thank you so much for all your support and advice. It's really heartwarming to see so many people who care. I didn't hear from the surgeon's office today, so I'm guessing that the other hospital hasn't gotten back to them yet about available OR time. With Monday being a holiday, if I don't hear anything by Tuesday afternoon I'll give them a call & see if I can't get things moving. This is just so frustrating! I hate insurance!

I don't even know what to say, I am so sorry! I have every confidence that in the end, this will all be worth it and be just a horrible distant memory of what you had to go through to get relief from your chronic pain.

You've come too far, jumped too many hurdles, climbed over too many obstacles to give up now!

Oh Skeye.  ((((((((((((hugs)))))))))) I'm so sorry to hear that this has happened yet again.  It makes me so mad at what you've had to go thru and now they cancel again.  It should be against the law for the hospital to just up and say they don't take your insurance now.  This makes me so angry.  My heart goes out to you.
