Some days it's all I can do to stay sane is to come to work and keep busy. But even that is difficult because I'm doing it IN PAIN.

I have Atypical Trigeminal Neuralgia -- big name for something that feels like a constant, horribly abcessed toothache.

When I'm not at work pretending to not be in pain, I'm in bed catching up on sleep because the pain does keep me up.

I try to be normal in all aspects of my life that entails: work, appearance, mother to my 4 yr. old daughter, wife, keeping the house clean etc. But some of those are unbearable. I see women do those with a flick of their wrist and while I have such a tremendous time just pouring coffee some mornings! I can't help but feel jealous and resentful.

I know God has a plan for everyone. I'm fighting the good fight with this pain, but I want it to END! This year will be the 11th year I've been in this pain. I've "come a long way" but I've also "gotten nowhere"

Thanks to all in the forum who read this and allowed me to vent. This is a warm, loving, and unconditionally understanding community that I am proud to be a part of and need to be active in more.

I can completley relate to what you are going through! I have been in pain for almost 4 years now and they still don't know what I have and what is causing my pain. I too work 4 days a week and it is VERY difficult to say the least. My husband and I have a large house and it is also difficult for me to do the cleaning, cooking, grocery shopping, etc. I have thought about getting a housekeeper. It's just TOO much sometimes. I feel very overwhelmed! I also wish at times that some of my family members and friends could feel the pain that I have for a day. Then they would understand what I am going through!!!

Anyways, hang in there. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Unfortunately, I don't have the answers... but I definitely can relate. This is not the life I envisioned as well... and, unfortunately, life just keeps going on! There's a house to clean, kids to raise, jobs to be done and so forth. It's very, very difficult for me to keep up with things as well... and, frankly, I've had to prioritize and many things just don't get done.

I'm in constant battle w/ myself because my "old" self is a Type A, neurotically organized, type of person...where I gave 150% to everything... my "new" self can hardly function on most days... and a "good" day for me is giving 50%. It's a terribly hard adjustment to make.

The thing that I would *try* not to do is compare yourself w/ others... It sounds like you have more than a full plate, and it also sounds like you are doing your very best with everything plus dealing w/ chronic pain - which can be a FT job in itself.

Hang in there... keep venting, and know we understand :) I sure hope you feel better...

Hi Elenor,

 

Vent all you would like. Eleven years under your belt and you manage to do what you do, wow, that is a lot.  My hat is off to you for being able to do many things.  I cannot imaine getting up every day and going to work feeling like I had a horrible toothache.It just stinks what CP can do to a person, but then none of us ever envisioned some of the twists and turns on the road we have been traveling either. I was medically retired at the age of 49, not what I had planned at all. When most people hear a person say that they think we are so lucky to get to stop working at a young age. Boy, if they ony knew. I tell anyone to stay working for as long as you possibly can. To me staying home is just not cracked up to be what most think. I would much rather be working. Try to cut yourself some slack, after all you are dealing with a lot lady.

 

Take care of yourself and please visit us more often.

Hi Elenor,

I don't think we have met before, so I'd like to welcome you here. This is such a great group of people. Many of us check in every day and then take breaks from the board for a while to take care of other things. I didn't mean to miss you, but I've not been able to be here as much as I'd like lately.

I'm really sorry you are going through so much and that you suffer so. Of course, everyone here is CP and we understand. Unlike Straydog, I don't work anymore and have found the experience to be wonderful. My stess level is down so much that it helps with my pain. Of course, I still draw a check from retirement, so that may have something to do with it, but I am never without something to occupy myself. I enjoy being home and able to sit down in the recliner whenever I need to.

I don't have the type of pain that you describe and I'm sure it must be unbearable. I wish I had an answer for you, but I can only say that you are quite a person. You work, take care of your child, take care of your home, and take care of life. It will be a blessing to get to know you.

I hope today is a better day than yesterday and that every day improves just a little until all is well with you!

So sorry for your suffering. Yes we are all in the same boat and that is what is great about this place. We all understand each others' pain.
I hope things get better for you soon. What kinds of doctors are you seeing? Can you tell me about your symtoms as I have constant headaches but have always wondered about neuralgia.

Hi,

I am new to this site today, so hello to you all.

I have had facial pain for six years now, it started in my tongue and just got progressively worse,spreading to my tooth and jaw, it is a crushing, squeezing sensation that becomes unbearable, it is hard to know where to put my jaw. The pain and sensations are there 24/7 and it appears to worsen in the evening. I sleep well fortunately, but is starts upon waking each day. What I would give for a break from it, it wears you down.

I am a 53 year old mother, I have four children, three still living at home, so it has been tough going.

Currently I am on Lyrica 150mg twice a day, Cymbalta 60mg in the morning and at night I take a Xanax to calm the nerve down so I can get to sleep. I see a pain psychologist and Pain Specialist every 3 to 4 months. The psychologist tells me that my pain will not get better, that is can only be reduced by relaxation etc. I must say that I still hold out hope that it will one day go away, or a cure will be found.

I wonder if anyone has similar symptoms to mine, I would love to talk to you.

Hi Elenor  I'm sorry you have to be in such pain.  My heart goes out to you.  I have chronic pain, but not the kind of pain you have.  I can't imagine going thru a toothache everyday.  Ouch!!  I hope you have a low pain night.
