Medtronic Neurostimulator Implant was a waste of time not to say a waste of monies and pain!

Did not work as promised by the Doctor very little pain reduction in the back and none in the legs.

Implanted Charging device is a joke does not work well at all, have to hold and press with the hand for several hours to charge enough for a few day.

I do not recommend this device at all! shakehead

To MMMNAVY i have a rechargeable neurostimulator unit installed in my lower back, with lead wires for the pain down my right leg, and the left lower back.  Please be honest with yourself about how you are feeling, better, worse, the same.  My trial didnt go well, but for various reasons i went ahead with the surgery. the unit in my back has failed twice.  My pm doctor installed the unit to deep the first time in.  approx. i had a second surgery, unfortunately this has also failed.  i have done everything i possibly can to try to charge the unit.  i had my grown daughter go thru the entire process with me, still nothing.  i had my daughter help so i could assure myself that it was not me.  I wish you well,  and hope your experience is much more positive than mine.  this chronic pain forum has been a wonderful place i have said this before and probably will say it again, healingwell.com and the chronic pain forum has been like coming home, so many experiences the same and different all at once. have a great, wonderful day and again good luck.

I am a new member. Age 68 but always have been active. My doc said I am a candidate for neurostimulator. Surgery would be very extensive as I have scoliosis and they would rather not do it (L4-L5) but it would need to start at T12 due to scoliosis. I am in constant sciatic pain with pain going down my leg into my foot. However, I am still able to push through and do most things albeit in misery and I have had to cut down my hours at work to 22 a week which affects me financially A LOT. After reading these posts I think I will just hang with it until I am as debilitated as some of you folks are, then get the stimulator. I feel so much compassion for you people who are so much worse off than me. At least I can walk and do a lot of the things I need to do. I only take 3 vicodin a day which barely takes the edge off but at least I can function. Epidurals helped at first but not now. Chiropractor helped the most but ins. doesnt cover and I cant afford it. Too bad ins. wont cover what helps. I never really got an answer about the recovery time when the stimulator is implanted but it sounds like its more time than I can take off work. My best to all of you!

Hello Birdgirl and welcome to Healing Wells chronic pain forum. I am sorry to hear that you are having such a terrible time with your back. Alot of us hear know exactly how you feel and understand what you are talking about.

I am going to ask you to repost this as a new post so that all of the members can give you a proper hello and welcome aboard. You posted on a thread that is really old and a lot of times people ignore old posts like this and not many will see your post. So, if you don't mind please report on a thread of your own. If you will look to the top left you will see Post New Topic thats where you click and then a heading space will open and just type in something like new member considering SCS unit and then click again and post the rest of your thread.

Personally speaking I don't have a lot of faith in SCS units. I have seen too many failures here at Healing Well over the past two years, I think they need a lot of fine tuning before they should be allowed to be implanted in people. The ones that did get some relief it was short lived. Thats a lot of money for something to be so iffy on whether it will help or not. I urge you to really do your home work before ever committing to having it implanted.

What kind of dr are you under the care of? Have you been seen by a PM dr before. If not it may be something you would want to consider. Since pain is their specialty, if he/she is a good dr they can come up with the right medication to make you a lot more comfortable than what you sound like you are. No one should have to suffer.
