It's been a week since my PM doctor took me off Paxil because it contraindicated with Nucynta. I've been having severe "zaps" for two days solid now. He didn't taper me off either because he said Nucynta has some other SSRI in it.

I hate these zaps. I know they will go away. I got off Paxil before when I was pregnant. I had a day of a mental health breakdown (balling my eyes out, hormonal, pitiful lol) along with the zaps, but they DID go away after a few days. Hope this episode does too.

Nucynta is actually working fairly well! I'm so excited and can't believe something is actually working for a change. I hope it continues to work, unlike Cymbalta that worked a miracle for a month and then wore off having the pain right back in place as always.

Hello eleanor rigby, I believe nucynta has norepinephirine reuptake properties not seratonin like paxil and ssri's.

I am sorry you are having such a difficult time coming off of the Paxil. My husband experienced this as well. It will get better, I know you already know that from past experince, but I am reconfirming. I hope the medicine continues to help you. I have been on Cymbalta for almost a year and hate it!!I mean really hate it!! You know how it is, if you forget a day? Feels like you are on a rocking boat and you are so confused. I always know if I forgot to take it. I would like to get off of it. Did you have trouble doing this? Did the Dr. taper you off of this one at least? I hope you feel better. Talk to you later. I experienced something similar when I came off of Cymbalta. It's no fun for sure! I hope these "zaps" pass quickly!

Sorry I haven't replied to any of ya'll until now. I've been zapping all weekend. It's only in my ears now...like whomp whomp feeling like a oscillation machine sound from outer space. No, I'm not crazy! Just hypersensitve to these zaps.

I had my first full blown pain attack in 5 yrs. from the zaps and getting off Vicodin cold turkey. I KNOW there is such a thing as Codeine and Acetaminophen withdraw. I don't care what the medical field says. When you take it as long as I have (7-8 yrs now) your body gets use to it!

~~Skeye~~ Cymbalta made me sweat like a pig when I was on it. It was like I was having hot flashes at 40! Oh no you don't!!!! I had no trouble switching from Paxil to Cymbalta to back to Paxil at the time. Everyone is different. I've learned that by this blog.

~~spinal soldier~~ It does, but my PM doc said it was the same "mechanism" as SSRI an I shouldn't feel any zaps. WRONG!!

~~Michel99~~ A zap is a weird noise, sensation, electric feeling in your head that you can feel and hear in your ears when you get off of SSRI's. Some people get them, some don't. I've transitioned to other antidepressants without any zaps before, but not with this one.

The good news is that the Nucynta is working. I'm almost in disbelief being in pain for soooo long. It's like it;s all a dream. I just hope and pray it continues. Cymbalta worked for two months then quit.

     Good morning. It is good of you to stop by. I hope you doing okay, all things considered?

 

     I have gone through withdrawl off many high dose medicines, including SSRIs. I am terribly sorry, I have no clue what these "electrical zaps" are that you are refering to. It sounds rather uncomfortable noone the less! I encourage you to talk about this with your doctor. Even just a phone call with him/her would help.

 

     I do hope you are able to have a good day today. Try to rest as much as you can and know that you are in our hearts here.

Dani-- that is what is so weird about it, some people get them and others don't. Google "SSRI withdraw zaps". There is a good wikipedia article on it.

They are necessarily painful, just a nuisance to add insult to injury type of thing.
