Back from new Rhuemy..boy have I got a good story... should have listened to golitho

 So I had me new Rhuemy appointment today. It was quite and interesting day in general. I thought I knew where it was,thought it was just north of downstown indy. Instead it was almost 35 minutes north of there. So I left work a little late to go(lost track of time) thinking it wouldn't take to long anyways. On the freeway I realized my son must have borrowed my van because the gas I put in was gone. So by then I'm like oh no I'm gonna be late. I go to put gas in and realize that he borrowed my atm card to deposit his check and didn't give me back the card. I only had $5.oo in cash, and I'm on E. I get to the dr.'s 10 minutes late and he is waiting at the front desk with the receptionist. The glass is closed but I can tell they are talking about me because he looks at his watch. Anyways I get in there and he is great. He asked so many questions, and ordered blood test and x-rays..my old one never did any of this. So I think he's leaving to go get the nurse and he turns around and tells me to strip down to bra and panties so he can come back and check all my joints. Just as he walked out I remember I was wearing a pair of nice dress pants for work but hadn't wore panties because with these pants it leaves a panty line. I start to panick, thinking oh my..golitho told me they do this. So I pull my pant legs up as far as possible and cover up with the sheet thinking he might not notice(yeah I wasn't thinking) he walks in and looks right at my legs kind of funny. I stammer and ramble.....and then tell him I'm not wearing underwear because of these pants and I hadn't thought when I got ready in the morning and my old rhuemy never checked like that oh my gosh I'm so sorry do you want me to strip down anyways? He stutters a little and his face gets bright red and he says " no,no that's ok, just keep the pants on." I was so imbarrassed. He got his compossier(I think he wanted to laugh or run out, I don't know) and checked all my joints. Put me on an anti-inflammatory and sent me for test. I'm sure I was the talk of the office. He handled it well and spent nearly an hour, even though I was late. I think he will be good. They are suppossed to call me wednesday with the results, unless it comes sooner he said. Well thought I'd share my story with my other family...next time I wear underwear, and have a full tank of gas. .Heather

That is hilarious!!So you do trully know what it was like. I'm glad they at least laughed about it..it's one you'll never forget am I right? Yeah, I know they all have this oath about dr./patient..but as I was leaving everyone at the front desk were smirking. I might have been paranoid..but I'm pretty sure the story had already made it there. Without us I guess their jobs would be really boring..same thing, day after day. It really was one of those, uh can I climb out the window moments..ok where is the window? NOOOOOOOO there is no window, hmm wonder if I can sneak out the door before he gets back. Darn to late..he's back.

I've never gone in with no underwear, but all my docs seem so shy and embarased when they are doing various exams. They keep looking upward, have a nurse or assistant in the exam room, keep me completely covered even if I have my underwear on ... It's no big deal to me! After having 4 kids, a tiny breast cancer, all sorts of exams, mammograms, colonoscopies ... nothing embarasses me anymore.

Keep the stories coming. It's lots of fun reading this while I'm waiting for my nighttime pain med to kick in so I can go to bed.

I have a story from a slightly different perspective:

Being a male and a nurse, I have a few stories from nursing school that was well rather embarrassing, at least me. One of the ones I remember the most, was during one of my clinicals in labor and delivery, my clinical was from 7 to 11 AM, well at 1045 my assigned patient, looks like she is going to deliver very soon, so my nursing instructor, said if I did not have any classes in the afternoon, that she would like me to stay over and be there for the delivery. That was fine, a little while later, in the delivery room everything was ready to go and then the stir-up on the left side broke, things were starting to move pretty quickly, and the Doctor looked at me, and said being a nursing student, I wasn't doing anything, so  I might as well be useful!  and at his direction so I was! I was the stir-up  holding her leg up during the delivery!!  Everyone thought it was funny, even the patient! But boy it did not take long before, the word got out to the nursing school. and did I ever get razzed over that one. Remember I was a minority in my nursing school class, not many males, in my class and I was the only on in this particular laber and delivery class! All I can say is  you just  might try to  imagine some of the razzing comments I got from the other nursing students! And I thought men bad with the teasing, and were crude with the jokes, guys we don't have anything over a group of women in that department!

I only told two other friends that I have, one of whom referred me to this Rhuematologist. The two of them laughed,no kidding, for 5 minutes straight.

Like I said I have a feeling I will not soon be forgotten at the Arthritis Care Center. It will be very interesting to see what happens when I have to go in for the results. SE, I have to agree with mom, as I was laughing, I totally got the visual..which made me laugh harder. White Beard after having 5 of my own...I'm so sorry but the thought of you having to be the stir-up that close to..well all of God's creations had me laughing out loud. You never know when someone will "bust you out" with the undies thing. The other day at a large family gathering, one of the two year old's went with her Memi (Grandmother) to the potty and yelled out to everyone......"MAMA....Memi forgot her panties".....busted!!! Not a dry eye in the house after that.

I'm glad I could help with some laughs   My mom did remind me of that saying when I told her over the weekend what happened. She got quite a kick out of it along with the other stories posted here(sorry but I had to share..they were so funny). I will not be thinking pantyline next time and have considered of keeping a spare in my glove compartment..but that could start a whole other type of story of why there are there in the first place. Soooo I'm just going to keep them on in the future..all the time....goog lesson learned though. Now I'm dreading the going back. I keep telling myself maybe he won't remember, then reality kicks in hahaaha..I will be the one his grandchildren here stories about.   Have a good one and thanks for the support.
