Hello Everyone,
I just want to tell you a little about me. I was born in New York state but now live in California. I found out I have RA in 2001 and it hit me pretty hard. I did not completely understand what it was at that time but I soon found out. I do remicade everyeight weeks and take methotrexate once a week. I am still on my feet. I love to walk, listen to music, make new friends and am active in my church. I also read a lot of books. As for the pain, well it is always present. I have lost a lot of my independence. My husband passed away a little over three years ago. It has been tough as he took care of the bills and such. I had never lived alone. Also I turned 65 in June. I have other medical issues. I am totally blind and have a hearing loss. I try to do as much for myself as I can. I have good friends who help when I need it. We only had one child and he is 40. I have three grandchildren. Well, I will get off the soap box now. I almost forgot, I have a black lab guide dog named Kodak. Thaks for reading.

Welcome to the forums Morning Joy (love your name!). I'm sorry it's pain that brought you here, but you're in good company with excellent support here from the many members.

It sounds like you have many struggles you're going thru. I take it you live on your own - are you able to manage your place by yourself or do you have help for that? How wonderful that you have Kodak to help you...that's a great source of staying independent. Are you finding your treatments helpful, or are there other treatments your doctor wants to try. It's awful to still have pain, even after taking medications. I hope you're close to your son and his family...hopefully they help out when they can.

I hope you enjoy the friendships and support you'll get here. They are a good group. I hope your pain becomes manageable, so you can enjoy your life as painfree as possible.

Yes, I live in a condo gthat is paid for by myself. I am pretty close to a shopping center about a ten minte walk good for both me and Kodak. My son lives about an hour away and I don't see hime as much as I would like. He is pretty busy with job, school online and he is also a single parent of a little girl who is five, long story. I will write more soon. As for other treatments nothing else for now. I also take tramadol and use pain patches. My left knee is pretty well gone.u

Welcome Morning Joy,

I am so sorry that you have to be a memeber but you have came to a wonderfull place. It is full of supportive,caring people. Before you know it I hope you feel like one of this big family, I know it happened to me without me even realizing it. I am so sorry that you have had such a rough time. It is wonderfull that you are so independent!! You amaze me. I used to live in California, for most of my life but now reside in Indianapolis. I miss all of my family there. Where about do you live near? I was near Downey, nearby Sante Fe Springs, Fullerton and all that.

Hi Mama 6 I live in Ontario about sixty miles east of LA. I want to remain on my own as long as I can. Not ready for the old folks home yet, loll.Thanks for the welcome.

Hi MJ, pleased you could join us. RA is a terrible disease, I've only had it for 4 years but it has totally changed my life. So I can really relate.
Being alone must be so hard, my hubby is such a help to me both physically and emotionally, my heart goes out to you. But there are lots of friendly people here, always ready to listen to a rave or have a laugh. So welcome, post often and let us get to know you, golitho

Hi Morning Joy! I'm so glad you are here. We each have our pain and so many of us have had heartache that goes with that pain. I couldn't and wouldn't want to imagine losing my husband! Oh dear, I am so sorry for that alone! But I am so, so glad you have Kodak! There is nothing like the presence of an animal who loves unconditionally to bring out the best in the worst of situations. I know when I am in the most pain, it's the brightest spot when my dog comes to the side of the bed and "loves" me! He's a mess, but I love him and I love the cat who sleeps on the pillow next to my head! Between the two of them, I can get a bit of rest and love while my husband is at work. Please know you are welcome and wanted here. Who wouldn't want Morning Joy!!!! Great name!!!

Hi Morning Joy, am a little late with my reply, but still wanted to welcome you here. I only joined recently and it's amazing how nice people are here. By the way, sorry to ask, but what is RA? I live in Germany and even though I'm more or less bilingual now, there are some special expressions I don't know yet. I do find it amazing that you still live by yourself and do s much on your own!
