Ok, gonna try to make a long story short! I had a Dr. (psychiatrist) that I began seeing in 1990 and continued seeing until around 2000. Now, you have to understand that this man saved my life. He was the doctor assigned to me while I was hospitalized after the abduction of my sons - he 'broke through' when no other doctor could get me even close to functioning. Anyway, I continued seeing him monthly after I was released, for about 10 years. Then he became very ill (multiple myeloma and some other blood disease) and abruptly closed his practice. After a period of time, I began looking for him to update him and to see how he was doing. And nothing - could not find any info at all. I missed him terribly - we had been through so much 'together'.  Ok, to wrap this up (even though it could be a novel!), I found an old email of his, wrote to him, and I just received an answer! It was short, but I'm writing back this evening to see what's going on. I'm sorry, I know this is off-topic (although he was the first doctor who treated me for CP), but I just wanted to share the news with someone! Hope everyone is doing ok this evening!  :-)

I'm SO happy for you. I totally understand how much a doctor can impact your life. I love my doctor and I am finally at the point where I opened up about how difficult things have been pain-wise. That's amazing. I'm so glad that you found him! What a beautiful post to read.

    Hey Splash , Good for you , even though psychaitrists stand apart from us , you saw him for a long time and he helped you thru a significant challenge , I hope contacting him was gratifying for you , good luck . Mikel

He was (is) a wonderful man. Our monthly visits were more like 2 friends talking - that was the 'therapy'. There was no 'psychoanalyzing' - it wasn't what most would even consider an actual psychiatric visit - it's difficult to put into words. He was the one constant in my life when everything else was uncertain, unstable, and downright scary. I always knew that no matter what, once a month for 30 mins. there was someone there for me. Like I said, it's hard to describe. But yes, I am very happy that I found him and I am hoping that we can meet and catch up on the past 10 years or so! Actually come to think about it, it's been 12 years - I last saw him in '98, not '00. Oh geez - brain fog! smhair

It's a wonderful thing when you can reconnect with someone who has had such an amazing impact on your life. I'm glad you've found him and i hope your correspondence with him feels like old friends, staying in touch.

Splash thanks so much for sharing with us. We do need some OT subjects because our lives should not revolve around pain 24/7. That's just not healthy. I do hope he is well enough the two of you can resume your friendship that would be awesome.

Splash, you are so welcome to go into OT with obviously, all of us! You are such an amazing person and I have enjoyed everything you've written. I too have a very close relationship with my doctor of 8 years. I moved from a wonderful doctor in Texas and truly "lucked into" this this psychiatrist. I can tell him what I think needs to be done with my meds and we actually talk it through until we are both happy with the results. I hope your new one will become as close as the other!

Thank you for sharing this with us. It's very touching and I can imagine that the Dr. will find a special place in his heart knowing that he actually helped another person during a time of need.

I hope things go as planned and everything turns out wonderful!
