I'm not alone in the "house needs work" department. I keep focusing on all the things that need to be done at a whole but I'm trying to slow down and look at what's needed first. As far as wallpaper, you can steam it off, yes, and it often damages the drywall but fixing the holes that leaves behind is very easy. Take the stuff off, let the wall dry and get joint compound, use the spackling knife to cover the areas, let it dry and sand it so it's smooth, prime and paint. We just did two walls. Come to find out, our entire dining room is wallpaper that was painted over, and our hallway. We didn't notice until we painted and it started curling at the door frames. A friend also told me that we could sand or cut the seams off the wall, use the joint compound to cover it and then paint. He said there was no need to remove the paper, but our isn't coming off. If yours is, you could just water to spray it and slowly take it off with the spackling knife. It's a lot of work and it's hard to do when you're in pain, I know that's much is true. Oh, if you have to cover any large areas and you're sanding, put down paper, shut off the air and put plastic cover on any doors leading out. We spent two weeks cleaning drywall dust over everything in the entire house and we still aren't done. it's awful.
