Has anyone had or know about Neurostimulation devises?

Hi Patsy I am very sorry to hear of the dx of RSD in your knee, we have several members here at the forum that has also been dx'd with it. I am sure at some point today others will come by and say hello.

I would like to suggest that you use the search feature at the top right of this page and type in SCS units and you will get a ton of current info on these devices. These units have been discussed many, many times here at the forum. It can be a much quicker way to get info using the search rather than waiting on someone to come along that has a unit, or someone that has the time to sit down and write about it.

Your dr will schedule a trial for you with the unit to see how well it works. Does your dr have this scheduled yet? I am sure he has told you that some people get some relief and some don't. You will get a very mixed review of the units here at the forum. The units do not take your pain away, instead it creates a different type of sensation that is suppose to kind of over ride the pain signals. In the event you decide to have the unit implanted keep in mind once the leads are surgically implanted as a rule they can not be taken out if you or the dr decide to take the unit out. The surgery would be too extensive because of all of the scar tissue that has built up around the leads to keep them in one place. Its really something to do your homework on and not make a fast decision about either, weigh out the pros and cons.

Patsy please do discuss this further with your dr. I do hope nothing I said swayed your decision but I have learned when it comes to medical devices drs tend not to tell us patients everything we need to know about them. Now, whether it is an oversight or not I do not know. I have found some make it sound like its a piece of cake and something that is greater than sliced bread when in fact that is not always the case at all. There are some people on here that are happy with their devices and some that are not. It is very much an individual thing.

I actually had the trial for the Medtronic, Neurostimulator done back in November. I was very reluctant, but needed some relief. I was supposed to have it in for 7-10 days, and I didnt last 2 days. I must say, it did feel very good in my legs, very good...BUT, I have a lot of nerve damage in my back so the leads caused a lot of pain in my back. I cried uncontrollably and went back in the next day and the pain dr. said this just isnt the best option for me. I was devastated that something else failed, but, I wanted that thing out! I would say, it doesnt hurt to try the trial. You can see if it works for you, if it does you know, if it doesnt, then, at least you know. I really wanted it to work, like I said, just to be able to 'fool my nerves' but, it just wasnt meant to be. I have heard great things from others who have said it is life changing. I do pray that you find relief.

Hi Patsy, I hope the appt goes well with the knee dr. I would think since you have RSD in this knee the possibility of surgery on it would set the RSD out of this world. Many times that is how people end up with RSD is having surgery on a body part and wham next thing you know RSD has set in., Really does put you in a bad spot for sure. But, who knows this knee dr may know something none of us know. That is my next step with my knees is new ones. I have had 4 surgeries on the left knee and 1 on the right and they are just worn out. I am not looking forward to it and I plan to put if off as long as I can. What do they think these tumors are you were speaking about? You know RSD can go away as quick as it shows up, no one ever knows how long a person will be afflicted with it. It is a very strange disease.
