I am currently using Lidocaine topicals for some pain relief, and even though it does help a bit, I was wondering if anyone knows of anything else out there that might help more???

I use BenGay and Tiger Balm over the counter and Volteran Gel by prescription. Of course, I don't use them all at once. I switch up between the three. I wish you good luck on getting some relief in your pain. I hope you're having a low pain night. Take care.

    Fyrfli, We had a spammer post an OTC "Topical" here on the board a while back, and I actually tried it. I'm undecided at this time, but your welcome to give it a try.

        Since I found out about it by a spammer I'm reluctant to name the brand here, but if you will email me, I will send you the information. Also I don't know what your DX's are so I'm not sure if it will be effective for your condition.

on my good days when I'm not flairing bad I use over the counter Aspercream,
on my bad days I use volteran gel, but sparingly....sometimes it can be a pick and
choose type thing as what helps me might not help you, so try a few out there
to see if something can help, but make sure to let your PM doc know....

hello, i think there are some OTC capsaicin topical preperations, it burns me up but it is good for nerve related pain like diabetic periphrial neuropathy or shingles because it inhibits Substance P which is involved in transfering pain signals to the central nervous system. dimethylsulfoxide "DMSO" is a byproduct of paper manufacturing. they use it on race horses muscles. i think healthfood stores sell it. you can customize herbal poultices to your needs.

They can make any pain medication into a topical for the most part. I just started Volteran Gel and it does seem to help a bit, but it really depends what kind of pain you are using it for. It doesn't help with my nerve pain, but works on my shoulders after I have been sitting.

Depending on the intensity of pain I have heard of combining Katemine and Neurontin etc... compounded of course.
I assume that if you are on Lidocaine you are past the over the counter stuff, none of it worked for me.

My doc gave me some samples of the Flector Patch. Its an NSAID and I put it on my thumb. I cut it in one inch squares and it gives me some relief.

If you don't have insurance, they are VERY expensive. Over $300. Not sure why! But they do help!

   "Arnica" in gel form. Found at whole food / natural stores. It comes in gel and pill form. Put on effected muscle group. It is natural anti inflammatory. It wont get different "soothing" sensations. It does relieve the pain, allow you to use the effected muscle group without causing more pain. It lasts 2 to 4 hours. No "smell" either. My spine specialist recommended it to me years ago.

i second the Arnica. it is homeopathy based and i still can't rap my head around that. "like cures like"
