Hello chompers23, just a little more input from nini53. I think it depends on who your doctor is and what they are saying, I am saying I once asked my doctor if he thought I should take oxycontin, instead of morphine, his reply to me was there was no difference in the strenght of the medications.
Now while I dont agree with him, I am not going to argue with him about it either. I am doing ok on what I take now which is 60mg of morphine 3xday, 10mg. percocet for breakthrough, and neurontin 300mg 3xday.
Before he became my pm doctor which is almost a year now. I had been on methadone. I will say this I had some minor withdrawal systems while switching from methadone to morphine, now of course thats gone. Also when I see him again for my monthly visit June1, I will be getting some kind of change in my meds because what I am taking is just not holding up, and I have been at the same strength for more than 3 years. I mispoke before, I actually was taken off of methadone by my previous pm doctor, the man was so paranoid about prescriping methadone when I started with him some time in 2009, after 3 months of prescriping methadone, he explained that either I take another pain med or go to another doctor. I changed because at that time, I had no time to research for another doctor. Withdrawal was not an option. Once was enough for me, its pure awful, I wont go through it again.
I trust my pharmacist more than my doctor, when I ask her a question, she knows what shes talking about. Just one more thing, I was taking diludid 4mg. when I was on methadone for bt pain. I agree at least for me it was one of the most least expensive meds I have been given, the pain med that was the very least expensive was methadone. I wont go into my entire conspiricy theory about the cost of meds.
So hoping everythings works out for you, and wishing you low pain days and many of them.
