SSD approved

Hi Everyone

 

SSD called me yesterday and wanted to know if I got a lump sum from W/C yet and I told her no.  She then said "You got approved and that is a good thing that happened."  I had to ask her to repeat it because I couldnt believe what I heard.  Oh My Gosh!! i got approved!!. 

 

If I could do the happy dance I would be strutting my stuff at this very moment.   I asked her when do you think I will get my first check and she said after she fills out paperwork and sends out approval letter then I will get back pay from the date of my injury 10-21-2010.

 

This will be excellant for me when I appear before the W/C judge in July to have him approve a caregiver and a stair chair lift.  i am officially disabled.  Plus one look at this leg and it will be won.  Yippee!

 

So has anyone else received SSD and how long was it until first check came?  Things are really tight in our finances at our house and I was thinking of our budget.

Yippee!!! That is wonderful news!!! The extra bonus to the money which I know is much needed for you...that with the stress from this lately...I'm sure it's added to your pain levels....so this should help those as well as bring up those lovely endorphins and oxytocin levels!!!!..

Yes! One less stress is gone. I just cant beleive that I got approved first time around. It is great.

Hi, I'm a new member and if this is too personal of a question, then please disregard. I read in your original post that just the appearance of your leg shows that you are disabled...and the fact that you need a caregiver and a stair chair lift tells me you have a very difficult situation. Congratulations on making it through the red tape and getting approved!

My question is this, and this may vary from state to state, but is there a limitation to being qualified for disability as far as your spouses income? If that doesn't make sense, I will try to state it another way, sorry! When being considered for disability do you have to qualify as a family - income wise?

It hopefully isn't really an issue for me anymore as I think I am on my way to getting better. I have no idea how anyone works a full-time job (or part-time for that matter) who has to take long term pain medication. Not only do I have the pain to deal with but the disabling mental affects of it as well. Fortunately, I wasn't working when this happened and we weren't dependent on my income but I had planned on working some time. I finished my degree several years ago (while in horrible pain, prior to knowing what was causing the pain and had MUCH, MUCH more ambition and mental energy than I have now due to long term pain meds...all taken as prescribed, btw.)

As far as how long it takes to get your check, I remember when my father had to apply for disability, it took a while it seems for him to be approved but not that long to get the check once he was approved. I will ask my mom and let you know. :)

Out of curiosity, did you have to hire a lawyer? If I remember correctly my dad did, and that took a pretty good amount of the "lump sum" back pay. But it was a second go around, so I guess it was necessary.

Hope the check arrives quickly!!!

Thanks for the info so in 2-3 weeks I will check my online checking acct info to see if lumpsum deposit was made by US Treasury.

My hubby makes $16,000 yearly but I will call my lawyer and ask about a tax on the lump sum payment.

Here it is saturday....Nothing extra in our checking acct as of yet. I will keep checking my online acct for a deposit from US Treasury.

i Talked to my lawyer on Friday about my hearing in July before a W/C judge to try to get w/c to pay for a stair chairlift and a caregiver. It will be a pretrial hearing 15 minutes long. Lawyer wants me there in my wheelchair eventhough No questions will be asked to me. I am there to make an appearance. whatever! I will do whatever is needed of me so that I can get a stair chairlift.

This Wednesday I get my staples out and steristrips applied and xrays of my leg. On Tuesday I have an appt with pm doc. she might need to adjust my meds.

Busy week ahead for me.

Hi Betsey...I'm sorry to hear that you are having some higher pain days...

Just a gentle reminder that any narcotics are only meant to be one small piece of the puzzle to help manage pain levels...So it's about the combination of those, any muscle relaxers, nerve pain meds, acupuncture, injections, antidepressants, any exercise that is able to be done each day directed by the Dr. yoga or stretching, aqua therapy, eating healthy, etc....just to name a few:)

I use almost all of those daily and my pain is around a 5-7 each daily...Unfortunately....with chronic pain, those levels are pretty much the goal for our Dr.s....

You can certainly call and speak with your Dr. if you are concerned and ask him what his thoughts are and if he has any other suggestions to help lower your level...

As well as...it may be your stress level back up since you say your check isn't what you were expecting...So I know it's hard to do....but since it's the weekend....try to put it out of your mind and not worry too much until you can speak with your lawyer on Monday...

I know it's easier said than done...and it's good that you come here to vent as we are always here to offer hugs!...

So hopefully you can get some needed rest...and maybe even try to do something enjoyable to get some endorphins flowing:)

Hello to my family
The check from US Treasury was marked soc sec ins. I called SSD and asked why the odd amount? I was told that SSD does not pay the claimant for the first 5 months so I got paid for 2 months. Then every 4th Wed of the month i will get automatic deposit into our checking acct. I wish somebody would have told me that they dont pay for the first 5 months from your injury. Well gang now you know.

I am happy though that I was approved the first time around. and it took 2 months. That will also help me get a lump sum settlement from w/c when the time comes. Also it will help me get a stairchairlift.

I took a 4 hour long nap today. gosh I needed that. So when I got awake I had enough strength to wash my hair and wash myself. I am dressed and now I wait for hubby to come home from work.

It got to 77 degrees today but it is humid.

Tuesday i go to PM doc and Wed I go to trauma surgeon for staple removal. Tonight I need to rewrap with gauze my leg. the dressing is falling apart.

I was up at 3:00 am today and by the time my morning appt arrived i was exhausted. She kept me on the oxy for another month with vicadin for bt pain.

She was blown away that w/c denied me a caregiver and stairchairlift but I did inform the doc that my lawyer is petitioning them before a w/c judge on july 12,2011 for a pretrial hearing. She liked that idea.

My leg is puffy today and shoe is tight. Par for the course.
I took a short nap, but still feel out of sorts.
