Hi im 33 years old and i am suffering from chronic low back and hip pain. This has been going on for quite a few years now and frankly im fed up with the ER and various doctors. I have gotten really bad over the past year or so and the past few months are unbearable. I've seen 3 docs in the last 30 days one of them a DO who told me he does not diagnose or treat what i have :( he did say he thinks i may have ankylosing spondylitis i have a rheumy appt but its gonna be another month of waiting. I've been given steroids, every anti inflammatory you can imagine and nothing really helps :( the ER dr gave me IV steroids and diluadid and i felt a lil better he sent me home on more steroids,ibuprofen and percocet, and it did help a bit but after i ran out of all of it im right back to where i was :( i went to the dr sat and they said theres nothing they can do for me they didn't want me to take more steroids..she offered me tramadol (which I've been offered by every dr thus far) and when i told her i cant take it as it makes me sick she told me to take aleve and sent me home :( funny when i tell people i cant take pcn cause im allergic they never treat me like crap but tell them tramadol makes you sick and they throw you out i dont even know what this stuff is but its made me break out in hives sweat profusely and have an asthma attack not something i want to do again :( anyway im new here sorry to ramble on i just need to vent i guess. i hope this post is ok i read all the rules and i saw nothing about introduction posts. if anyone wants to help guide me along itd be much appreciated im new to forums like this and i know sometimes people get angry at noobie posts. thanks for listening:)

I too suffer from low back and hip pain as well as a slew of other things but that is for another time as this is about you. Have you tried going to a pain management clinic or seen if your regular doctor would refer you to one? I have been treated at one for about 2 yrs now and they are wonderful. My doctor truly listens to my needs as I have tried numerous medications and have had adverse reactions to a lot of them, yet he is willing to keep trying. You are welcome to come vent here as needed as I also came here for the same reason and have found a lot of nice caring individuals who can relate to chronic pain and will offer their advice or a shoulder to cry on. Trust me, I have found myself on the verge of giving up and the kind words relayed through this forum gave me the strength to continue. I hope you take some solace from what I'm trying to say and I hope you are able to find some relief. keep posting, it will help.

Hi I'm Kerry new here too im young too 29 and have
Chronic lower back pain and sciatica for 2 and a half years
Know exactly what ur going thru as yet I havnt found anything that
Really helps bin thru loads of medication too ( tramadol makes me
Sick too) I bougt a tens machines which does seem to take the edge of the pain . I am in a pain clinic and am trying different meds think u shud
Get into pain clinic too they are alot more understanding
Then gps who want u in and out as quickly as they can. Insist that ur doctor
Refers you to one good luck hunni let me kno how you get on xxxx

Hi Punkgirl ,sorry to hear your going thur this ,I as well suggest the pain clinic or a specialist ,someone who can understand and figuer out why you have pain .I belive there is such a problem with prescribtion drugs and somepeople abusing them ,the Dr has to be 100% sure before they prescribe them,don't take it personly! By sticking to one dr and insist you get refered to a specialist ,keep alog book of pain and explain this is what your going thur,also the meds that you have tryed what seems to work and what you tryed that does not work should be very helpful !I hope this info is helpful ,take care

Hi Punkrkgrl Welcome to our chronic pain forum I'm glad you found us, but I'm sorry you're in so much pain. I would also advise that you ask your pcp for a referral to a pain management doctor. They know more about presctibing the meds that chronic pain patients need. I wish you good luck on finding relief for your pain.

Thanks! I actually have an appointment with a local pain management clinic but that isn't until November ...I actually hate Drs and try to stay away a much as possible unless I'm very very Ill or in a lot of pain..I can't seem to find a pcp that isn't a complete jerk in my area so I usually went to a quick care center until I could no longer stand the pain in my back. I really hope the rheumy can help find an fix what's wrong next month I just hope I can make it that long..

Please get an appt. with a pain management doctor...They are great and you will have to sign a contract that you wont dispense the drugs that you get.

Please keep us updated on your situation. Post as often as you need to. We will always be there for you.

Hello Punk and welcome aboard. Well, I am sorry that you have had some rotten care but what you really need is someone to give you an actual dx so they know what to treat. By all means keep your appt with the rheummy. if you have AS, that is the dr you will need in your corner. If it is AS, what you have tried so far is not how to treat AS, that is why you are feeling possibly so bad. Most people with AS need to be on medications like Humira or Remicade. They are used for crohns disease but also used off label for AS. AS is a auto-immune disease. I urge you to go to SpineUniverse.com and read up on AS and learn something about it.

I know it seems like a long time off, but the appt with the rheummy is an important one for you. It takes so long to get in to see a specialist. While steroids are good for some conditions they are a drug that should only be used short term because of the damage long term use can cause. They do come with their set of drawbacks. I have osteoporosis as a result of long term use of steroids. I did not know I should not have been on them for as long as I was.

Going to ER for care is pretty much non-existent for us that suffer with CP. They think we are in there seeking drugs and treat us as such. At best they are only going to give you something for temporary use. Did you tell the dr what the ER dr gave and how well it worked on your pain?
