Duragesic patch vs Nucynta

My wife is presently on duragesic patches for pain. She has Bile Duct disease. She was recently informed she can no longer get the patches due to a new drug law here in Florida. I dont know if this new law is on the state level or federal level. Maybe someone could answer that for me. The new pain med her doctor is putting her on is Nucynta. Does anyone know if this new pain med is effective or not compared to duragesic pathes? I know the dose is a factor but all things being equal I was wondering if this pain med is a good substitute? Any input is appreciated. Thank you.

from what Ive read, this is not a federal law as i can still get duragesic patches here in Ill., as far as Nucynta, I have never used it but there was another post complaining that it was not as effective as percocet so I can't imagine it would be a fair trade for a patch, just my opinion!

hello, I just read the information on various websites and while it said to be for moderate to severe pain, it is being compared to tramadol as its effectiveness. I know tramadol well...Ultram...I was on Ultram on and off for the better part of 3 years..it's fairly weak compared to Duragesic. I am currently taking Duragesic and Opana. Both help so much better than tramadol even came close to working. Now I have been on and off pain medication for the better part of 14 years and I would say Durgesic is better than nucynta. What new law for Durgesic? I live in New York and I have never heard of such a law. Is is state law and what are the rules?

From what I understand that has been a new type of drug law passed Florida regarding the pain patch (duragesic) being approved only for cancer patients. This could have been just a rumor - I am not sure.

But probably is worth checking into for you.

No problem getting the patches here in SC, but then mine is prescribed for cancer pain.

Been on and off many pain medications nothing works as well as the pain patches, I know some doctors do not like to perscribe it..but here in arizona no problem..
