(No Subject)

Just been to the doctors and he prescribed LYRICA instead of GABAPENTIN and to my dismay that is a weight gainer as well he didnt listen to me about the 70 pounds I gained with Gabapentin dont want to take this Lyrica which costs 500 danish kroner what do I do now any suggestions

I have been on Gabapentin for 5 yrs and had a little weight gain, maybe 8 pounds but, I find most nerve meds. do give some weight gain. I think Betsey gave you good advice.

It's hard for most of us to talk to doctors in a convincing way. After all, they know about this stuff they prescribe, right? But sometimes what we see as an awful side effect to us isn't much of a concern to them. Probably the person has never had a weight problem...like many of us....(me included). But I agree about talking to the doc. One way you can do it is to actually write down what you want to say. When you go in to see the doctor just tell his/her that you get tongue-tied and have trouble remembering what you wanted to tell then and ask him to read the note/letter you brought. I still take a note with me if I have more than one thing I want to remember to ask about. Doc sees me pull a piece of paper out of my purse and immediately says..."What's on your list?" He glad I do it so we get to things that are small problems before they get to be large problems. That has really helped me in the past and now I find it easier to talk to doc about anything.

One thing it took me a long time to realize and put into action is the fact that the body those pills are going into is MINE! I know it better than anyone else, I have to live with the results and I'm the final person who gives the 'Yes' or 'No' as to whether I take it or not. You can tell your doctor that you prefer not to take it. I declined different things that doc offered but he also knows that he can offer me new and/or experimental treatments and if I'm not comfortable with it I'll tell him so.

Doctors have lots of magic tricks up those sleeves...that's why they wear those long, white coats...lol Let him offer you something else. Hope you find a good solution that works for you...
