what do you do to channel your pain in a positive way?

I have tried many and most things, looking for a way out of pain...it seems there's only things to help one sustain a sane mind while dealing with this horrible curse....rather than a cure...if you have any particular outlets that help you deal with your pain, I will gladly accept any new thoughts or ideas. thanks :)

I read the newspaper, books,and I crochet.

Gimp, welcome to our forum. It is always nice to see a newbie come to our forum, but so sorry that you are having pain.

Soaking in a tub helps my back relax otherwise it goes into spasms

I have suffered from extreme back pain for years, and the thing that keeps me going is my Wife and kids. I know they depend on me, so no matter how I hurt I go to work six days a week and give everything I can for them. I can hardly move when I get home every night, but I need to keep going for them.
We bought a hot tub this year to help relieve some of the pain, and it's heaven to sit in there and actually not hurt for 20 or 30 minutes. It wasn't cheap but we just made it our anniversary/ Christmas present to eachother and promised we wouldn't buy anything else for me or my wife on our birthdays either this year (we still buy Christmas and birthday presents for the kids), which made it a great year not having to go out and find gifts for my wife. lol. But it is amazing how much stress and pain relief a nice hot tub gives you.

For 4 years I have had chronic pain due to a missing disk in my spine. This pain limits me to a computer chair with a lot of arch support and a heating pad most of the day. My back hurts all day and gets worse throughout the day until I cant function anymore or pay attention to anything. and until I have trouble sleeping. I try to go on walk everyday. I am young still. I barely get to see my friends and I am stuck at home.

But I don't know how to deal with this either. Spas and tubs are nice If i could sit in there for hours i would. But those are not permanent. My back pain is... I cry so much : (
