Today I received notice in the mail that my denial of disability benefits was reviewed and approved! Out of the blue with no hearing too!
This may seem silly, but I feel like dancing and jumping around. My body doesn't work that way anymore. It makes me wonder just what happened to make them change their minds. Whatever it was doesn't really matter because they approved it, and fighting for it was worth it.
I hope every one is having a low pain day filled with sun and warm pleasant weather.

Congrats Mindy, that is a relief to have that behind you. Were you waiting on a hearing? I was thinking you had filed for a Reconsideration and was at that phase. Seems like you had mentioned re
opening a Long term Disability claim, did you get that re
opened? I saw something the other day that Unum was having to go back and go through over 200,000 claims that they had denied. Here a few years ago they were sued because their policy was to keep denying claims. Not sure if this was the company your claim was with or not.
Take care....Susie

I filed for disability a few years ago, I have Cerebral Palsy, and the SSA was amazed that I had not applied before then or had someone apply for me as a child. But I did not want to do something like that until I absolutely needed it. Luckily my claim was approved from the start, but I've got friends and family going through various phases of the process. I imagine it was extremely stressful to be denied and then in "limbo" unsure whether you were going to be approved and/or how long you should keep trying. I'm really glad the system worked for you whatever the reason, and you should definitely celebrate somehow!

Still feeling happy hours later!
Susie, I had filed the appeal with my attorney and received notice from our local SS office that my application for benefits was denied and I must file appeal and have a hearing if I disputed the decision. The attorney I hired was very nice, explained that the wait for hearing was a year usually, maybe a little longer, and that I would have to undergo the psychological testing and see the SS doctors most likely before the hearing. It surprised me that I was reconsidered, and still waiting on the attorney's ideas of why reconsideration was done when told I had to have a hearing.
I did file for long-term disability through my old employer, Liberty Mutual, and they told me that there was no reason I could not work according to their doctors, paid a partial payout for the time they considered me disabled, and wrote me off. After the check was issued no one would talk to me. Well, now that SSDI is active, I am required to reapply with them as well, according to the letter I got today. I remember from my fight with the lady at Liberty Mutual that if SSDI approved me, then they were required to. She complained that I hadn't filed with them first so they didn't have to pay a full payout. I am going to ask the attorney tomorrow what to do with that situation and when.
You have a great memory Susie! I had a lot of issues with them last year.
Have a great night!

Doing a happy dance with you:) So glad to hear this. What a great relief....
That is interesting that they went ahead and approved without a hearing or having to see their Drs. so will be interested to hear how that worked..
Thanks for sharing..

Congratulation Mindy!!
I'm really happy for you! I am gla that they went back over it and approved it. It really probably should have been approved right away the first time! I hear all these different stories that everyone has about
their experiences with trying to get SSD and it really makes me wonder how the the system even works at all! Anyway I am glad yours was approved, I am sure it helps lower the stress level, ( at least a little bit) especially on trying to make financial ends meet!!
Congrats!!

Congratulations!!! That is quite an achievement as Social Security denies almost everybody. They want everyone to fight for disability, and take a long, long time to get it, without hope of other income. It took me three years to get approved even though I have abdominal and groin pain, can't lift anything, can't always get out of bed (I use a bed pain and have sponge baths), and SSDI told me that there was nothing preventing my working. I eventually was approved, but it was quite a struggle. I am happy to hear that someone else who needs it finally got it!

Mindy, these LTD companies just stink and most will not pay unless the person gets SSD awarded. Its true just about
all the LTD companies require the person to file for SSD. They just keep denying the claim until they see if the person is going to get SSD. We helped alot of clients with the LTD claims and most of everything they pulled was just a crock. They want people to get SSD so they can pay out less per month to the claimant.
I could not remember what stage you were at on your SSD claim. Really what matters the most is benefits are going to be paid and who cares why the decision was made at what stage as long as they are paid.
Any luck on finding a new home???
