I went to my new PM doctor again today.  Two weeks ago I went and I didn't like him.  But today I gave him a chance and I really am happy with him.  He is weaning me off some of my meds and I feel better.  My back still requires that I stay on MS Ccntn but at a much smaller dose.  I find that the young doctors listen to you more.

jazzie,

glad you gave him that second chance, sometimes it takes a few visits to see if one really fits well with a new doctor. takes time for him to know his patient, and the other way around. hope that relationship continues well for you.

What is MsContin? And how long did it take to find a decent dr/pm? I am on my 3rd pcp and my 2nd pm in 2 years. shakehead confused cry

I was on 100 mg twice a day and he just lowered me to 60 mg. twice a day. I don't feel any withdrawal but my back is hurting. I am going to stay with the smaller amount of mscontin and see how it works in the future.

Recovery, MS Contin is long acting morphine. It only took me a week to find that doctor and he even takes my insurance.

Screaming Eagle, thank you for the pain ribbons. I received them on the weekend.

Jazzie....Do you have a muscle relaxer to take when needed? I am also on MSContin but opiates really don't touch the muscle spasm type of pain.

So I have Flexeril to use for that pain and it does a good job.

Snowbunny21, Yes I am on Xanax 3 times a day. Sometimes I can get away with only taking 2 a day. I have a panic disorder as well as everything else so they help. One day my blood pressure was so high that I got scared so I took a xanax. about 35 min later my blood pressure was almost normal. I have had panic and anxiety attacks all my life.

Obviously I am not a Dr...just pretend one...LOL...

Xanax is not an actual "muscle relaxer" but a benzodiazepine medicine that decreases abnormal excitement in the brain.

It may have a side effect of making someone feel more "relaxed"....but it is not a muscle relaxer.

A true muscle relaxer like Flexeril, Robaxin, Skelaxin, Soma or Baclofen are really effective to help with spasms.

I would speak to your Dr. about this. If they choose to put you on one of these...they will tell you to not take it at the same time of the Xanax as this can double the effects of your motor skills or respiratory system.

But many people are on both an anti-anxiety and a muscle relaxer to use as needed for those bad spasm days.

Personally I would see what your Dr. says about this:)

I use to be on robaxin and flexiral and it didn't agree with my stomach. I have a ulcer so they made my stomach really sick. The Xanax helps with my true problem they were prescribed for me was for the anxiety and panic and I need them for that. I have COPD also so I try not to take too many meds because of my respiratory system. The doctor just started to take me off of my dilantin also.
