With me the dr gave me the choice of sedation or not. I prefer not to be "knocked out". So I chose to allow him to use novacaine, and grit my teeth and bear it. Honestly, it's not as bad as one may think. I have a high tolerance for pain, but even that being said, it is five to ten minutes of pain, for months of relief. I will and do, or make that trade all day long. It is definitely not easy, but for me(especially the first time), it was well woth it. I actually played golf 3 days after. It was like 10years ago. Fleeting as it was.
As I said, keep in mind, it is as good or bad as you imagine it to be. For me, it is worth the momentary discomfort, to get the benefit of several weeks to months of significant relief. If you are ok with being put under, it is not bad at all. The first facet injection I received, they did me....and the shot points were a little sore, but nothing in the long run, compared to the constant pain of not getting the RFA. Good luck, tell the dr. You have some apprehension, and he/she will either give you something to calm you, or explain it so it eases you.
I say yes. Because the RFA helps more than anything else we have tried.
