Thinking of changing PM DOCS Need advice

I have been going to PM for 2 years and i had some mess ups at first with meds and depression, and ended up short on meds one time ((which was only once and 2 years ago)) So i have been going there but about this time last year my doc left, it hasnt been the same and i feel like its a cold uncomfortable place where im not at all feeling like a person just a number on a chart. I guess i just wanna start over, my chart speaks for it self as far as my accident and deg disk disease and arthritis ect..I just feel like i am in limbo. I had my Medtronic Neurostemulator placed last year and since then im trying to navigate life with pain but not as much pain...whats normal,,,what can i expect, will i have surgeries again? are my expectations not realistic to want to know where i stand rather than feel like i am sinking into quick sand further with every visit?

Really make sure you want a new PM. I went to one for 12 yrs. and changed and now I am sorry. Wish I could go back.

Just know that there is nothing wrong with going to an appt. with a new DR. and not requesting/taking any prescriptions for opiates. This way it is just considered going in to see if they are possibly a better match for you.

The main issue is to not trash your Dr. now to the new Dr. Just tell them that you seem to have come to the end of the line for trying new treatments and you are looking for a better way to comprehensively handle your chronic pain.

Many PMs and their staff when you set the appt. are first concerned that you are not just seeking opiates from them and this is easy to set their mind at ease that you just want to see if they are a better match and you are only coming for a consultation.

In between my 2nd and 3rd fusion surgery I had a terrible Neuro and PM and had to go on about 4 appts. for other PMs until I found the one I have now. As well as my new Neuro is in the same practice so I hit the jackpot for great DRs.

So, just don't burn any bridges or do anything that harms your current treatment but go on appts. seeing if you can find a better fit.

Thank you so much...i think this is where im at..i told the nurse at new doc that i wanted to see if they were a better fit for me b/c they are in the same building of my General Practice doctor who has seen me from the start. I was just scared b/c you hit the nail on the head...the treatment line is at an end. all they wanna do is try this med or that med. I am looking for a comprehensive treatment plan for the future not just meds i dont wanna be drugged all the time but i also dont want to be under medicated either. I felt as if i was whiny when i wrote this and but b/c of pain i ended up in a psych hospital,, and my PM just wrote that off as nothing and i was having serious problems.

I agree with snowbunny. I changed PM's 13 years ago and did just that had an appt. with no meds until I was sure that I liked the new PM better. I was very happy with the outcome.
