I don't know what to do...

Glad that's never happened to me! That has to be a bit scary. I take flexeril and it's amazing for my spasms but there are many other muscle relaxers out there.

I've read quite a few posts of people who use Soma and they seem to have good results. Whatever you do, you should call your doctor immediately and stop taking the Flexeril.

Hi Sosickandtired, thats sounds like some very scary and possibly painful experiences, especially if you did what I have a tendency to do, which is to kind of jump out to grab someone that's not there. I have had experienced kind of what you described, but what I've experienced wasn't really hallucinations, it was more like extreme disorientation, falling to sleep, and waking up before getting completely to sleep, or before your eyes really start closing. I've done that a number of times since I was a pre-teen, but have never attributed it to any medications, always to extreme exhaustion. The way you described it almost sounds more similar to this than hallucinating. Did you actually see someone there for a second? Or just get that gut feeling in your mind?

Not sure if it would really matter what your mind actually did, but for your own safety, it's pretty obvious that you need to try something else, God forbid that you were driving (it's happened to me, I drove truck for a few years, sometimes, very tired), or that you were cooking or something, and started experiencing that, it could be bad I think. I know the little time that I took flexeril, it was like a sleep aid, I had a terrible time staying awake, or concentrating on anything. Soma also made me sleepy, which I've been on for several months now, but the sleepiness has long since gone away.

I hope you don't have this problem with the next med that you try, I know for me, a muscle relaxer is essential to keeping things in my back from going crazy. Good luck, and keep us posted on what happens, hope you're doctor and you are able to find something that works. Take care, and God bless.

Hi SSAT, I have taken Zanaflex in the past 5 years and did fine on it and it worked very well. I am with a different dr and she has me on Baclofen 10mg, and I am very happy with it. I was started on 5mg and that did nothing for me. Once she changed me over to the 10mg it made a huge difference. I could not tolerate Flexeril, it makes me very sick at my stomach. Of course we are all different in how we handle these medications but hopefully your dr will put you on something good & effective.

Sorry you are having this reaction. I would stop taking it too. I think the side effects are probably some interaction w/ the other meds that you've listed that you are taking....

I can't take Flexeril either... it makes me feel way too drowsy and just *hungover* in the morning. I already feel terrible in the mornings - so I can't take anything that adds to that.

I've taken Zanaflex too - it does work great for some, but it did funky things w/ my blood pressure. But it works well for some.

Robaxin works for some - but it's on the *weaker* side.

I take soma... it's a great muscle relaxer.... just some doctors don't prescribe it anymore for various reasons.... but it's the one med that really relaxes my intense spasms.

Good luck to you. I have a big family - and I know how hard it is when you are dealing w/ kids and aren't feeling well. Hope you can find something (and soon) - that works for you.

I would think it is logical for him to only give you a 13 day supply of the Robaxin given you had such a strong reaction to the Flexeril..

And I'm not sure why you are automatically thinking that this is "weaker" than the Flexeril. Most of the muscle relaxers I named are all similar in their strength...it's just a matter of preference to some people. As I mentioned, I rotate through 3 of them every few years so I don't develop a tolerance.

I would also think that it's not a good idea to take any new medication that is sedating at the exact same time as your other pain meds and the Klonopin..In fact I would think many Drs. would say to not even take the Klonopin at the same time as the opiates....

The side effects you had were not the norm and it is a huge red flag that it was all too much medication for you to be nodding off mid sentence...

Just give the Robaxin a fair trial as it won't look too good to your Dr. if you just asked to switch and then all of a sudden want to go back to the Flexeril...I would take them on their own...Do not drive or do anything that could be dangerous until you figure out how you feel on them in the next days and as I wrote earlier...regular nuisance side effects will subside in a few weeks to a month..

Thanks guys.. I'm going to give it a fair shot... And I only made that comment about it being weaker because someone else who responded to this post said it was weak. I took one a couple hours ago and, so far so good.

SoSickAndTired I have taken Flexeril and I didn't like it at all, it made me feel spacey and drugged up, not so much tired and sleepy but just spacey! I take Baclofen now 30mg every 8 hours and it works really well for me. When I was in the Military they gave Robaxin for muscle spasms, I took it after my first fusion in my neck. It worked really well but you have to be on it for a day or two before it really starts working.  I never had any side affects from taking it either. Flexeril was the one that gave me problems!  Hope this works out well for you!
