Trigger finger surgery upcoming

I'm having surgery on one finger next week and I'm also getting 2 cortisone shots at the same time. I'm driving myself there.  Should I take the next 2 days off work?  I'm not sure what to do, I work on a computer all day so it might be tough to type, etc.

Do they give you meds to take home for pain or does Tylenol do the job?

Do they tell you to keep it elevated after your surgery, no one has told me that yet or what to expect afterwards with regards to pain, physio, etc.

Don't mean to butt in as I don't have any experience with this particular surgery...

I just wanted to quickly comment about Lortab...This is actually Hydrocodone and Acetaminophen....The medication that is Codeine and Acetaminophen is Tylenol 3.

Just wanted to clarify because I know for me...I cannot take anything with codeine as it makes me sick to my stomach...So I didn't want to confuse the two meds if someone is prescribed the Lortab as it does not contain any codeine.

I had a trigger finger revision on Monday due to a failed release. The recisiom was a second release and cleankng out a lot of scar tissue. I worked on Monday before surgery, and was back at work for a short day Tuesday and a longer day on Wednesday. I did take Vicodin on Monday, and again Tuesday after work. Other then that I have used Tylenol and Advil. Thursday I was finally not alternating them every two hours. My hand is wrapped up for two weeks until I get the stitches out. I was told to keep my finger moving, but no lifting and light duty only until the stitches are out. I do find I find easily but it gets better each day. It wasn't that bad, but remember to keep moving your finger as it heals, but not go over do it. Let pain be your guide.

Only my palm has been wrapped after each oh my trigger finger releases. They want you to start your fingers right away to try to avoid scar tissue of adhesions. I was not allowed to drive the day of surgery, but was allowed by the dr. to drive the next day. I also was allowed by the dr. go return to work the next day as long as I was on light duty. I teach preschool and have to be careful around the kids while I still have stitches and have to keep it clean and dry. The dr. offered to write a note if my boss wanted one for me to return to work the day after surgery. My boss did not need a note though.

Lisanne, I'd suggest you call your doctor's office Monday and get someone to answer your questions. Usually it doesn't have to be the doctor; in my case his nurse was the fountain of all knowledge. You deserve to have this information, and when a doc doesn't give it to you it's important to ask questions and be sure you get them answered.

Thanks everyone for replying back to me, I appreciate it. The way the Dr. made it sound, he would freeze the area, it would take around a half hour and I could drive myself home and there would be a bandage put on the spot, and he made it sound like a band-aid would be put on it, and he said I'd see him later on to have stitches removed. He said I could drive myself. He never said anything about pain medication, how long I should be off work, what the pain might/might not be like, holding my hand above my heart or anything about scar tissue, or physiotherapy or massage or anything like that at all. Perhaps he's going to tell me all this after the surgery?
