Njbackpain,
It's not bad advice at all! It sounds like Sr. Jude's is doing it right! I was
shocked when I first saw that reprogramming bill! I know that prices are hugely inflated to try to "trick" insurance companies into paying the docs more, but if you don't have insurance, or coverage of a particular service, and have to pay out of pocket, you're stuck with the full bill, whereas the insurance companies only usually pay the docs a fraction of that billl. (On a side note, if you ever have to pay out of pocket for medical services, you should asked to be charged only what the typical insurance company would pay, had they covered the service. Some hospitals will do that for you, but you have to ask for it.) As for the stim reprogramming, I wouldn't mind paying $50, or even $100, but $3000 is beyond excessive -- especially when you are NOT warned pre-op of all the routine maintainance fees that you will incur in the future (although perhaps it is partly my fault, as I did not ask either). I feel like I am being somewhat taken advantage of.
I didn't have a choice of which stim I could get, but I do want to mention that other than what I just described, I am very pleased with Medtronics. My reps are both excellent, and after 2 1/2 yrs, I have yet to have any mechanical problems with the stim itself.
RM,
Best of luck with your trial!! I can't wait to hear how it goes! Also, I think that I can speak for most of us here when I say "don't worry about
'taking over' the thread." HW is all about
sharing our experiences and knowledge, as well as offering support. Again, best of luck!
