Mental health is probably the #1 root cause of most things that don't show up on an x-ray these days. From obesity to homicide, mental health has been swept under the rug for so long by so many, that those who need it don't have access to it, or have become stigmatiazed to the point of refusing any care offered when a professional reaches out to them. From PTSD to sociopathic occurrences, from depression to full blown bipolar disorder, it's all lumped under the same category by the uninformed.
While I am never going to understand a grown man walking into an elementary school and killing innocent children, for whatever reason, it made sense to him at the time. I do understand being at "ground zero" of an event. One of the first Catholic priests brought to trial for his behavior with altar boys was tried at the courthouse of my hometown. It was very strange to see the CBS, NBC, and ABC (Don't think CNN was on quite then) news satellite trucks parked downtown in a city of about 10,000 people.
I take some solace from this, we are all born, and we all die. It's what we do in between that makes the difference. Some just have a shorter time to make an impact. I pray for the families, and for all of the others involved, like the teachers, and the emergency services who responded to the call. Pure nightmare fuel for an adult, but children who are just learning about their place in the world are obviously going to be some of the hardest hit.
I know there will be counseling available for those affected. Too bad it's for the survivors, after the fact.
you said it exactly LC.....this tragedy happened I believe ( from what I have read ) that the young man was mentally disabled. That is sad for him and most of all for all those killed and all the others that SPLASHDANCER and others mentioned...This is very very upsetting...!!! prayers>>>
