Yeah, El Paso, TX is the halfway point from the Texas/Louisiana state line to downtown Los Angeles on I-10. People forget just how darn big Texas is.
And on the road with a toddler, especially in the middle of potty training, that's quite an undertaking. Very understandable. But there's plenty of reasons to come here, assorted festivals almost year-round, rarely gets below freezing, though it's darn hot and humid in the summer. And lots of kids to play with. I can set little man up with some friend's kids, and they can romp around a big safe yard out in the country, and I have access to at least 4 or 5 babysitters. Gives you a real break. Sit in the shade with a cold soda pop and watch them, or go inside and catch a ball game.
This invitation also extends to anyone who needs a change of scenery for a bit and can get away, but remember Louisiana's drug laws. Don't expect to get refills here, and bring them in your scrip bottles. I live in a small town with a couple of museums, and about
15 miles from the Tabasco factory, where they give tours. Cheap, but not sleazy motels up to bed and breakfasts and an older Hilton are available locally, and the local music scene is tremendous and growing. And festivals everywhere
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_festivals_in_LouisianaAnd if you leave hungry it's your own fault. It's a great vacation for a budget. I can be your guide, and I won't even charge. All of those festivals are family friendly, accessible by chair or scooter, and the only really crazy ones are in New Orleans, and that's just well behaved (usually) crowds at Jazz Fest, and the general debauchery of drunken out-of-towners at Mardi Gras.
I now return you to your regular programming.
