Change in prices

Short answer, lol: Yes, the pharmacy does make a difference....

You'll find a wide variety of prices for things, depending on your pharmacy. I go to Walgreen's - but I use insurance. The cheapest places for meds, w/out insurance, seem to be Sam's Club, Costco and Wal Mart (here in in the US).

The $4 scripts at Wal Mart are only if the med is on their "$4 list"... this doesn't apply to all meds....

Also I don't know what state you live in but Kroger matches any competitors prices. Kroger also had a four dollar list but I'm not sure if they still have it or not.

I'm in Florida, we don't have any Krogers where I live. I have an insurance plan that is not medicaid or medicare. I doubt some of my medication is on their $4 list... :/

I usually go to a Walgreens and I just...want my meds to be cheaper, lol. There is a "SmartPharmacy" that I used while I was on medicaid and they did the whole delivery thing, so maybe my drugs might be cheaper there...

I guess I have some researching to do...thanks guys.

Edit: I did some research and all of my prescriptions are on the $4 plan...what's the catch?

I think the $4 includes people on insurance plans..It's all about whether it's on their list or not...

But no catch...there are just certain meds out there that are more heavily prescribed that they can get discounts on in bulk.

I don't have insurance and use Sam's club but none of mine are $4...but I still save a bundle by going there.

Most of the time a grocery store is going to be more expensive but as others mentioned, many are willing to be competitive if you just tell them you may be going someplace else. They may be able to match...so all you have to do is ask.

Since I have been to both (Walmart and Sams), it's actually cheaper at Sam's club as they have more buying power. Even though you don't have to be a member to use their Pharmacy, I do go ahead and pay for the membership each year as it saves me hundreds of dollars as the meds are almost 50% to 75% off from what they normally are. I also save on gas as they have the best prices in our area by far for this so when I go once a month I fill up!!!

Again..keep in mind I pay cash as I am without an insurance. So I think the big box stores will have a better price but as we mentioned, calling around pays off...literally!..LOL

If my insurance is being a pain and doesnt want to cover specific meds (a lot of times they have the "alternative" meds covered, but it always seems to be ones I cant switch to!) Then I go to Walmart and take advantage of their list when I can.

Its definitely a lifesaver even with insurance!

LOL..Vickie...on my end without any insurance...I would kill for $2 or $3 prices for my meds!!!! :) But I understand what you are saying....

AN for now since I have a 15 yr old daughter still at home the great department of families and children and the Medicaid program says I can't afford to pay my medicare premiums or all of my prescription drug co-pay on my media part D,so they help by giving me Extracare as they call it here,Ky it was QMB.

So on less then $900 in SAD for 2 of us and no child support I only qualify for some extracare not all so Medicaid would then cover my meds for free. Guess you have to just draw minimum amount.

Also get a whopping $267 in food on snap. For both of us. My daughter does get Medicaid so I am thankful for that and she has an : no plan through Medicaid that Florida offers and it's the one good thing I've found about the assistance here,allows us to get $25 of OR D meds straight from the pharmacy every month.

DangerD I have a list with 5 pages from Walgreens that is their low cost list,also if you look at their adds around the pharmacy up Will see the 90 days supply saving adds,those are the $11 or$12 ones for 90 days. Also think I saw them on my Walgreen page.

Someone also told me there is a prescription saving plan they had to. Maybe that's the way you get the $4 meds?

There was a time way back when before I was on SSD and my Oxycontin was almost $480 a month and when I settled with W/C they stopped laying for it,I had to go to the methadone versus oxycontin since the methadone was only $32 for a months supply saving me and$450.
