epidural by lysis

I have only had removal (surgeries) of adhesions in my abdomen laproscopically and never for my neck or back issues.

The downside to doing anything to cut away adhesions is that the surgery/procedure itself can cause more of them.

But there are definite times that the adhesions themselves could cause possible danger to the surrounding area. In my case they were strangling some major organs and they took hours cleaning them out and removed my appendix as well.

The Lysis procedure for the epidural ahdesions is used in cases like yours with multiple surgeries and if it can help by breaking some of the scar tissue up to relieve some pressure off the nerves then I would try it, personally.

My Neurosurgeon was very adamant about me starting PT about 6 weeks out of my last fusion which was done both anterior and posterior as he mentioned the possible adhesion issue with going through the muscle. I have continued most of those PT exercises at home daily and I am over 6 years out of my surgery. This has really helped from them causing too much trouble.

If your Dr. has done many of these before then I would be comfortable with them doing this. But only you can decide...

Since I haven't had this exact procedure done for my spine I can't say how painful it is but I would think it's going to be sore for the first week or so but making sure that your PM tells you what his plan is going to be to take care of you BEFORE doing this.

Was he not willing to answer all your questions and concerns about this? If not, then I would postpone until you feel you understand everything about it and are making an informed decision.

I have not had one but have heard it helps some people for a while.
They use a special catheter and special med that supposedly breaks up the scar tissue or adhesions,otherwise it's basically the same thing as an epi under floroscopy. They use the same combo of steroids and lidocaine.

The pain may increase at 1st and you may not see reduced pain for 2-4 weeks. Much like regular epi injections.

That's about it as far as I can recall. Good luck and I hope you have good results.

After three surgeries i guess it is no surprise that i have so much scar tissue. Following my first surgery i made sure i exercised, and try to stay in shape. So Im not sure if I could have prevented it from happening.I have regular epidurals after my surgeries with no luck. Pain has been getting worse over the past couple of months, so I decided that trying the procedure instead of going down the road of pain meds first,was my best option. I can only hope for the best.
I guess I can look at this procedure as "maintenance" haha

Hydrangea….sadly I'm getting ready to sell the Harley, and not mentally easy on me, but right now it is the right thing to do, and I just cannot enjoy it fully.

I have never gotten over the lumbar pain from the double fusion, and I have a couple of bulging disc in the cervical area of my neck…giving me pain in between the shoulder blades and up into the neck. I just had a second mole removed that was Melanoma in the very early stages…and headed to my Skin Dr this month, as we see a couple of other areas of concern. The Melanoma probably bothers me more than anything, as it can be very deadly if not caught in time. We also have developed a cyst in my left wrist, and surgery is a possibility for removal.

My Dr mentions SSD on every other visit, and brings up the pain pump as well. We have a green light for the trial, but only after we have exhausted a few more meds. I'm desperately trying to put it off, but I have my days that I think we need to go ahead and do it.

Other than that, its just day after day, hour by hour, and so on of Chronic Pain.

I'm glad you showed up to visit with us, and hope your up coming procedure is a success with out complications.
