Dupuytrens Disease

After almost 2 years if hand problems and 3 surgeries, I finally know why I have had so many trigger fingers, and failed surgeries.

After looking at my hand today, and reading the report from my OT, my Dr. diagnosed me with dupuytrens disease. Since I am only 47, female, have had multiple hand problems so far, and that the current contractures between my thumb and index finger, I am likely to have ongoing problems, as there is no cure.

At this point, I have been referred to a new hand therapist for a second opinion, as a last ditched effort to avoid surgery. However, another surgery in the very near future is extremely likely. It will be a FDS slip excision to fix the failed trigger release, and probably additional with to release the contracture in the same area.

Dies anybody have experience with either Dupuytrens disease or a fds slip excision? Any first hand experience would be much appreciated. I am so tired of painful hands that don't work right, I just want to get back in the right track so I can function better at work (I teach preschool) and can get back to crocheting more.

Mommie24 -- I haven't heard of this either, until just doing a quick summary. Sounds very painful.... I just have bad carpal tunnel syndrome in my hands - and I know how frustrated I get when my hands hurt and don't work "right" (there are moments where I can't hold a pen to write... or feel my hands enough to hold on to something... etc). So... while my stuff pales in comparison to yours - I'm sure you are frustrated!

Anyhow, hopefully someone will come along that knows more about this.... I hope you can figure out the right thing to do (surgery, meds, etc)....

your the second ever and good job getting that diagnosed. my friend had a very new orthopedic surgery technique and he had full recovery.
