AMYLOID DISEASE

Hi,

I am newer to crinic pain , however on HW Prostate Cancer.

I have a friend, 65, male who was DX with Amyloid disease. He started having heart problems, and it was discovered he had Amyloid disease.

There isn't much out there for support sites and have found that this disease is extreamly rare.

Is anyone afflected with this disease who can shed some light?

My dad had amyliodosis and was treated with thalidomide. It was working to clear some of the amyloid protein from his system. Unfortunately, due to some of his other health issues, the treatment was too harsh on his body, and he lost his battle 6 years ago.

Right now, a friend of ours also has the same rare disease. She is younger and much healthier at onset than my dad was. There is no known cure, but only treatments to keep it at bay as much as possible. Our friend in in a second bone marrow transplant. So far it is going wuite well and the hope is for a continued healthy and active life.

There are more options for this disease than there were only a few short years ago. With these new treatments, there is hope of a relatively healthy life even after diagnosis. Life expectancy after diagnosis is also greatly increased in the past six years.

Tell your friend to find a good set if doctors and preferably with some knowledge of the disease, and keep fighting. There is hope.
