Another try at programming the SCS

Hi all
Tomorrow morning I go back to the VA for another attempt to get the programming of my SCS right. Sure hope they can get it this time or it's back to the OR to move the leads down. It's been a long 6 weeks without it working on the left side.
For some reason the pain on that side seems worse now after the stimulation moved than before it was implanted.

Bill I hope they can get this straightened out tomorrow. I know this has to be so frustrating for you. It drives me nuts when stuff like this happens. Please let us know how the appt goes.....Susie

Hi Bill,

I have gone through reprogramming so many times. I hope it helps you as much as it has helped me.

I Pray you will find the relief you are looking for. I know each change for me made a big difference.

Please keep us updated so that we can make sure you're doing well.

Hello Bill, Kathy here and I wish you much luck with your unit. I was not at all fortunate with mine, which has never worked since it was installed back in 2010. First it was in to deep, back to the or, then by the time it had healed the amount of scar tissue was to much. I thru in the towel.

It seems to be a crap shoot when the units are installed and some people it has been a savior, for some just another failed surgery.

I wish you all the luck in the world, I am aware that when they work it has changed peoples lives for the better, I hope you are one of the lucky ones, someone has to be.

Well gosh Bill,sure hate that your having trouble with the programing but it doesn't seem to be an uncommon thing so hopefully its just a kink to be ironed out.

Hoping tomorrow gets you on your way to getting relief.

Keep us posted and we will be praying for good results.

Good luck Bill! As others have said, it can take a few adjustments to get to a good place.

Thanks everyone, the replies are very appreciated.

The re-programming was an hour long marathon. Not enough, wrong spot, WOW way too much. LOL. But we did get it set to cover about 75% of the left side now when sitting and about 80+% when standing. I think this is about as good as I can ask for. The rep thinks it may help more after a few days use though.Now both sides are extremely painful with all the super stimulation and weird patterns.

I am having some of those issues with the battery placement too. We kept loosing signal while re-programming it and I have a hard time getting a good connection when charging it.
Mine is at about a 45 degree angling out at the top. The top is just under the skin and the bottom angles in under my spare tire. My rep really didn't like the positioning, but said will see what happens the next few weeks.
As bad as it hurt the 1st time I am not in any hurry to have them cutting that area again.

Oh, almost forgot. I get the add another pain that's isn't gonna go away. I separated my right shoulder and it just wouldn't stop hurting. Saw the VA ortho doc and it's mostly a lot of arthritis on my clavicles ends. Explains the horrible grinding noises and pain when lifting and throwing, Kind of an Ah-huh moment.

Long day all ready and \i am going on 3 hours sleep and have to get up at 2:30am to take my daughter to her freshman college orientation.

Hi, I'm glad things went well with you today.

I find it funny (odd) that I had the same programming issues you did....with it loosing connection. They eventually had me sit for the whole session to keep from losing signal.

You wouldn't happen to be in the lower Eastern US would you? If so, I kind of wonder if it is a St Jude's. that is because the rep had to have help two or three times just to make sure her unit was working correctly.

I hope this change does as well for you as my last one did for me!

Unfortunately I am stuck up here in Illinois, but I do wish I was back home in Eastern Tennessee. I have a Medtronics unit and my rep said when the battery is at a weird angle where half is close to the top, but the other half is deep they have problems with signal.

He finally had me sit in a chair so I could put pressure on the receiver and that seemed to help some. It was strange because it would have a good signal and then nothing and I didn't even move. I had that problem with charging it too the last couple times. And it takes forever to charge a 1/4 of the battery. I was worried he thought the unit was bad at first. He got frustrated with his unit as well and the final tests he used my controller, it worked a bit better than his.

MY ribs are very sore in areas that aren't normally because of the amount of tries and having the stimulation all of a sudden grab me and cramp the muscles in my chest and legs. Tomorrows 8 hour round trip should be a fun one, but it's for my daughters orientation and I ain't letting her down.
