I have a question about muscle relaxant medicine. Which can be used long term. Somadril and valium works against my symptoms, but they are what I understand not appropriate to use long-term. Do you have any suggestions?
Symptoms:
Muscle tension and fibromyalgia-like symptoms throughout the body.

Honken there are many different ones available. Mainly it goes with what your insurance will pay for and what one your dr will script. The bigger problem is what I take may not do a thing for you since we all metabolize our meds differently. To list a few there is Flexeril, Robaxin, Baclofen, 7 Zanaflex. There really is not one better than any other out there, its a matter of will it work for you. Work with your dr on this.

Hi Honken and welcome to Healing Well chronic pain forum, to answer your question, there are allot of antispasmodics available for long term use, I take Baclofen, I take it every eight hours and have been on it for quite a few years now. Allot of people complain of drowsyness while on it, but for me I have not noticed any side affects from taking it!, Baclofen is usually started off in small doses and slowly increased till it gives the desired relief of the spasms, I was started on 5mg every eight hours, and it was slowly increased till it finally relieved my muscle spasms, I am on a very high dose, of 30 mg every eight hours and it has been a Godsend for me as far as relieving my muscle spasms!

My doctor finally prescribed a muscle relaxer for me after all this time of jumping through hoops for her. After I went to pain management, she was more helpful with medications. Having said that, I am still not allowed to take the flexeril every day. It is to be used only a few times a week when I absolutely need it. I'm not sure what the big deal is about them but these days they really hate prescribing them for some reason.

So now if I'm having a horrible day, I can take a flexeril and a toradol and I feel much better. The toradol is a max of two per week due to the problems it can cause with the stomach. I found that having a muscle relaxer and an anti-inflammatory really helps my other meds work better. Hopefully your doctor will prescribe one that works well for you. Good luck.

I like you have terrible muscle spasms with my Fibro. I've taken flexeril, robaxian, baclofen, and soma. Soma was the last one I was on my consulting PM recommended I come off the Soma and not be given another muscle relaxer.

According to her, muscle relaxers are not supposed to be used long term. Nor should they be used in my case because the muscle relaxer will relax my brain, which will decrease my ability to breath.

I have issues with my breathing and am on oxygen 24/7 and have been found unresponsive on several occasions. So for me I'll have to suffer through.

I hope that you can get something that works well for you. I started with flexeril and it worked well for about 3 years. Good luck to you, I hope you have less pain filled days with your Fibro soon.

You need to write this question down and talk it over with your doctor, so you can get the correct medications for you, many well wishes and keep us posted.

Soma, Flexeril, Valium, all are Rxed for muscle relaxants. Xanax too, though many have problems with drowsiness. I have been on Xanax for 11 years with no long term effects but that is my metabolism. As a previous poster wrote, write this question down and talk with your Dr. about it. Muscle spasms are painful and disrupt a persons quality of life. If they can be lessened by medication, it is worth the try . . . q

Thanks everybody, I am about to do a list with medicins for muscle relax. This list will I give to My Doctor. I have to get license for them though I live i Sweden. What medicines do you think schould be listed? 1-5 medicines. Thanks for all again!
