The "No Pain Zone" Discussion Thread!

I appreciate my optimism. I have passed it down to my kids and to hear them look at the bright side no matter what makes me very proud of myself. Even my grumpiest coworker enjoy talking to me.... And you know my motto about smiles. :0)

I think this is a great idea!

Came back this afternoon to check on this thread, was a little disappointed that there weren't any new responses to a great topic.

It's a little hard to answer, because no one wants to appear to be bragging about themselves.

If I had to use a single word to describe what most feel is my best single attribute, it would be the word Fair.

In real life, I have strived hard to be fair to everyone in my path in live.

I treat my wife and family fair.
I treat my friends fair.
When I was working, I was the boss that was fair and understanding.

I try to be fair in all situations.

It's a little harder in the on-line situation, because we are not sitting in front of the person we are "talking" to, but even then, I try to be fair at all times. Being human, I sometimes miss the mark.

Or for those of us in CP, it's hard sometimes to be at our best when we are hurting so bad, but I know even then, I try to not let the pain do the talking for me.

I try to treat others, as I would hope to be treated, thus I want others to be fair with me.

Hi all, I have many posts to catch up on, but I wanted to do this one first. Today's is my 13 hour workday so I'll have more time after a while LOL.

I think one of my attributes is my laid back attitude. Its not like I don't care about things but i refuse to get upset over most things. There is no point in getting my blood pressure up over something that I can do nothing about, or something that its too late to do anything about. You have to forgive and move on.

I also tend to give people the benefit of the doubt, but I'm wrong more times that I'm right because I guess I just want to believe that people are good. 8-)

Thanks for this thread, its really cool, I like things like this that help us get to know each other a little better. 8-)

Thanks everyone that has shared so far! We can keep this an open topic for another day or two (or longer)... Like I said - I hope these threads will let us get to know each other better!

My answer.....

I had a hard time choosing between two things to share, lol.... so I'll mention them both :)

First thing: I'm one of those "what you see is what you get" sort of people. I don't try to be something that I'm not.... I'm really open about the life experiences I've gone through (positive and not-so-positive) ..... because they've made me the person I am today. I try to be my authentic self..... and I like that about myself.

Second: I love to laugh.... and have a semi-"twisted" sense of humor - in that I can find a good laugh in just about everything (this can also cause a problem or two, lol)... But I enjoy joking around..... having a good laugh until I almost can't breathe, lol.... I consider laughter to be one of my medications!

I love my curiosity, If i cannot find the answer for something i keep looking, reading and educating myself on subjects. I am always learning and am a history buff. I am especially facinated in surgery and medical devices through the years especially from 1860-1920.

This is something that I have so much trouble with because I don't think I have many wonderful qualities even though my hubby and others that know me tell me that I do. I have tried very hard lately to focus on all the wonderful things that I can do instead of all the things I can't do and that is helping me.

I taught myself how to cross stitch a couple of years ago so now I am able to create some beautiful things onto a blank piece of fabric and everyone wants me to make them something now lol. I also love to cook and since I have celiac's, everything has to be gluten free. I have taken time to research many different recipes to find the best ones. Some of them were absolute failures but I didn't give up. I can now say that my son brags to everyone about my cooking and only after they have raved about it does he tell them that it's totally gluten free.

I am also a very empathic person and this can be wonderful at times or overwhelming at others. I can totally feel how people are feeling when they walk into the room. I have actually been able to smell what someone is cooking a thousand miles away before they even tell me that they are making food. I know what type of candy my friend is eating and he lives 15 hours away from me lol. I am a weird individual but I just feel a lot more than others at times. I think this is because I open myself up to it and just allow it to happen.

One thing I really wish that I could do is sew. I would love to know how to make clothes. I also want to learn how to crochet things like booties and hats etc. instead of just a blanket. I have so many things that I want to do and really kick myself for not learning how to do them earlier. I also want to learn how to do chatalaine's and hardanger pieces but they just look so hard that it scares me away.

I am also a lot like David in the fact that I am fair with everyone. I try to see the good in everyone and understand that sometimes people feel horrible or are having a bad day and they take it out on others without even trying to. I don't hold grudges since I believe we should all forgive others. Having said that, that does not mean that I think it's okay to hurt others intentionally. That is inexcusable and I can't tolerate it. Okay I have written a book now. Everyone have a wonderful evening/morning.

Oh gosh David I am so jealous. I would be in heaven for sure if I lived closer to you and your lovely wife. I have missed out on so much in my life and I feel really bad about that at times but it is what it is. I love learning new things. It may not mean anything to anyone else but it's important to me and makes me happy and that's what it's all about I think. I have grandchildren now and it would be so wonderful to make clothes for them.

I am lucky that hubby gives me some spending money every month. Of course it all goes on stitching stash but it's better than some other addictions that would run us into the poor house. I often see sewing machines that are in perfect condition that are older models so I may just have to try to talk my dear hubster into getting me one lol.

Her latest projects were making new curtains and pillows for the living room, some dinner napkins for our d.i.l. she's even made doll clothes for our granddaughters American Girl doll. She makes many of her own nursing scrubs too. Her sewing room is running out of room quickly.

I think my problem is that I look at the things other people can do that I cannot. My husband then reminds me that they weren't born knowing how to do it and they had to learn just like everyone else. That helps me understand that while I may not be a surgeon or a ballet dancer etc. I have things that I can do that others aren't capable of at this time. I think we all have something to contribute and it's very important to realize that we are incredible people and very important to many others even though we are humble and don't think we are that special.

I really admire all of your all with your quality to forgive and empathize. It's really nice.

One quality I like about myself is my persistence. At the same time I dislike it it as well. I know it may sound weird but I'll explain.
If someone asks me something and I can't do it, I will work on it until I figure out how to do it and reach the goal/target.
However, it there's something I want to do, I may not pursue it at all or I will try but not be able to complete it.
Nevertheless, I still like this quality because it feels good so work on something and be able to complete it successfully for others.

Another thing I like about me is my fingers because it has some kind of talent that helps me play the keyboards and guitars which makes me happy. I sure wish I had the voice to go with it though. Lol

 Hey Linster! I have been sewing for 50 years and I teach you from here:)  At the store get an "easy" (really that's the category) I reccommend starting with pajama pants as they are mostly all straight lines. Read the directions carefully. Pop in here if you have questions. The patterns have notches to match up. Pin each seam before you sew it and press it open before youdo the next one. I taught myself this way. The worst that can happen is you give up and your out the $12 investment:)

  As you can see optomism and no fear of failure are qualities I have that I like:)

I would say, that all of us here at HW CP have and show great empathy. And as we all know, you almost have to have CP to totally understand what and how we suffer daily, meds or no meds. That is a kind of natural empathy that is very sincere on the part of all the members here.

We feel pain, so we understand pain in others. Many outside our world may sympathize with our plight, but don't always truly understand the struggles and depth of what we deal with.
