I'm a new member with a laundry list of medical issues, but I'll cut to the chase. I was advised by my pain management doctor that a sts was probably going to give me the most relief from ongoing foot, knee and hip problems. Suffice it to say that after a particularly nasty HA MRSA infection back in 2007 as a result of a hip replacement, life has not been rosey. In fact, its been pretty nasty. At this point, the hip and knee pain has been controlled with meds (gabapentin and opana) but the foot pain is excruciating. That is what the pain doc is trying to reduce or eliminate.
He used the St. Judes units. I have heard both horror stories and wonderful stories about the effects of this particular unit. It seems to me that its mostly the people with severe back problems who seem to be having the least amount of relief.
Here is my real question:
If you knew that you had a HA MRSA history and also a C DIFF history as a result of having to take too many antibiotics, would you consider the risk to rewards sufficient to still go forward with the neurostimulator?
Understand that there is NEVER any guarantee that HA MRSA is EVER fully eliminated and ANY antibiotics could trigger another C DIFF outbreak that is also potentially fatal. I am at the point that unless I can get this pain under control, I will likely be in a wheel chair within a year or two for the rest of my life. I am 64 years old with no heart problems, no diabetes, and really no other problems other than osteoarthritis and the issues with antibiotics.
