I am new on the fentanyl patch and it seems to be working, I'm very opiate tolerant so I was not concerned about that, I am on the 25mcg dose and with the tegederme tape no problems, I just dont want to have to go up anytime soon, I wore a 20mcg Butrans patch for 3 years on and off mostly on and it just ceased to work plus you cant really risk going up all pain docs I know wont chance it as it has some weird effect on the heart. I can deal with pain left over we all do..right? We are never totally pain free. Just cutting the edge off an a limited amount of breathrough pain, I am happy. And have long come to the fact, I just cant do it how I used to. I'm still limited sitting, standing and laying for long perionds, I can lay longer so long as I switch postions.

I do pray for everyone here that God comfort us, sometimes I feel guilty as a follower of Christ that I have to take things to help my pain and I know that's silly. I dont induldge in guilt, just pops in once in awhile. The God I serve is a loving God and in this fallen world of violence, greed and hate, it surley is not Gods fault. It, if anything keeps me closer to him.

Hey quick question, it was nice to let that out? (Sigh ahhhh) My arm where my patch is 2nd night was last night I woke up with a blast of spine pain that took my breath away it was so harsh, so I knew it was just breakthru pain, so I took one of my oxy's, but why the burning sensation on my arm up to my head, in my ear. Soon as the pill took effect it stopped. I guess it was a release of the meds. It was nice and cool in the room.
I look to see if that was a side effect but did'nt see anything?
If anyone has experienced this can you let me know. If these patches dont work I am truley out of options, as my liver can no longer handle to many pills.

Hello GaveMeGrace and welcome to the forum. I am not sure I know what you mean by joining. I will assume by having a user name and filling out your profile and doing an intro thread that is all that is necessary. You have done some posting already so I think you are all set.

So glad to hear the Fentanyl is working for you. Back when I was on Fentanyl I used Tegaderm to hold them in place too,worked like a champ.

Hi gavemegrace, may I ask you about your arm pain, how were you sleeping when it happened? Did you have your neck and head in a uncomfortable position or anything? and do you have any problems with your cervical spine? That type of pain can be caused by allot of things, but what your describing sounds allot like nerve root pain from your cervical spine. Could be you were laying funny and causing pressure on a nerve coming out of your cervical spine?? In any case I would make a journal and keep a log of your pain, when it happens and where and what you were doing and what type of pain it was. i.e. burning pain radiating down your arm and up your neck to your ear? Anyway keep a log of your pain and then if it continues call your doctor and talk to him/her about it and bring your log with you, so you can accurately describe the, what, when, and how, of your episodes of pain.

I responed to Stray, Whitebeard and Mouse and dont see my post, this is the third time, if 3 appear forgive me.
I sure cant sit now an must hurry, but I thanked you all addressed each and appricate all your care and kindness.

I hate when that happens rolleyes

But Whitebeard...I believe the medication was releasing in my arm like a skin pop shot that kind of burn w breakthur pain, I slept great last night for the first time in a long time.

Can I ask why stray you stopped using the Fent patch? Im going try my best to stay on a low dose, im use to pain, but if it become more than I can handle an interupts everything again,,,,ugggggg sigh) in my life ill have to go up, but hopefully not for a long time.

The Fent patch I tried and almost OD'd. Had the patch on but forgot about it really, guess it was working well because I went in the garage to move things around so I could put my car in there. Well I started to sweat and with my pours open the patch dumped the entire dose. Thought I was going to die. Never used the patch again. My fault totally not the product. This is why many stop using the patch plus the constipation can be brutal.

My parents are Pentecostal Christians so taking meds is a huge no no. I know all about the religion and medication thing. I don't even talk with them about my issues because I just don't want to hear the lecture so over the past few years just kept things to myself.

Thanks for your reply, I was pretty reluctant to get on the Fent and you have to be mindful about everything. I sweat anyway, so I try to start out of heat and Am very careful. I was on the Butrans patch which worked really well never no problems but it ceased working after 3 years an 20mcg is the limit or it can cause some major heart issues. Gossh I am sorry that happens, I am very limited anyway with the patch and breakthrough meds. I try and stay on very low does anyway. Still can't sit, stand, walk for more than 20mins. Or even lay ill get up sit, stand, lay. It sound ridiculous but I am use to it. As long as the edge is off and I don't want to be alive cuz my pain is so bad, I'm good to do whatever it takes. Been dealing with this so long I'm use to it. I'm glad your ok and once a scare Luke that happens you just don't take chances.

Again Thank You and ill even be more diligent now.

Hello and welcome to HW CP, gavemgrace

I am one of the regular Fentanyl patch users here too. My pain is related to cancer pain, and I am dealing with advanced prostate cancer.

I started with 12.5, then to 25, then to 50, then 75, then 100, then to 125, but now back to 100 temporarily.

I have been fortunate with opiates, in that I never have the classical constipation issues that many do. I was one that for most of my adult life (see if I can be polite here) ran on the "loose side" by nature. The opiate drugs that I am on have actually helped me in that area. I generally go on my own one or more times a day, post some of my prior surgeries, I was put on stool softeners short term when I was on actual morphine.

I am fortunate too, that I have never had a patch come off or loosen like many report. I don't perspire much at all, even when hot (which isn't a good thing, part of the reason I am so heat sensitive), so the patches stick good, if anything, I have had to work at peeling them off some days.

I wish you the best, and hope they continue to work well for you. The longer you don't need to up the dose, the better, so if you are happy with your pain control at 25 mgm, that's great.

Thanks for your reply, I am sorry you have had to experience way more and will keep you in prayer, I know it works I have experienced great mercy from pray. Unfortunately in this world there will be pain an suffering. Yes the patch is working fine I use tegaderm tape. And with the constipation thing never a problem. I have taken probotics for a long time which keeps the digestive track perfect and on time. I have been on everything and the pills began to compromise my enzymes from hep c so straight to the patches I went. Methadone worked the best but is the worst drug ever for me anyway. The side effects like constipation were bad then. We have all been through a lot and sometimes I'm sure I'm not alone when I say it gets tiering. But we have to on the good side of life.
